Editor's Thoughts:
  1. Some questions we have pondered over the ages:  If a word is misspelled in the dictionary, how would we ever know?, or now that it is World Series time . . . Why do we sing "Take me out to the ball game" when we are already there?
  2. How about a few more of the Editors' favorite redundancies:  Close proximity, ..... Serious crisis (I guess as opposed to a funny crisis?), .... Exact same, ...... and a long-time favorite of Porsche buyers... Foreign imports.

Notice from the Board:  It's Election Time!
  1. It's election time for Las Vegas Region Officers, but unlike our national election we still have 30 days to go before we close up the ballot box on November 30.
Ballots have been distributed to LVR members by separate e-mail. Voting has begun and must be completed by NOVEMBER 30
But don't wait until the last minute, you don't want participation in this important privilege hanging over head. So far, no one has hacked into our election, but we're watching out. Look for your ballot and vote.

    2.     A By-Laws Committee has been appointed to update the LVR By-Laws. There are several relatively minor
areas that  need to be updated to reflect the way the Region is actually operating, or to be brought into conformance with PCA National By-Laws. The Committee has had several electronic meetings, but we all have trouble staying awake. But we'll persevere, and sooner or later we'll get it done. We know you can hardly wait.

Now . . . . on to the Coming (or just happened) Events
________________________________________________________________
It was a a quiet week and the just happened events didn't happen, but no need to be concerned, November is just around the corner and things are about to happen.

October 26:  Spoiler Alert. . .this is NOT about a recent Porsche event

Spotted in front the Aria this past week were a number of Ferrari's of all colors and gender.  The signage on the cars indicated they were all participants in the Mille Miglia Southwest from the FCA-Tampa.  Despite an attempt to find the car owners and several "Google" searches, no information regarding the tour, the cars, or the participants was forthcoming.  So here is a JABOP (Just a Bunch of Pictures) from the Aria.

October 31:  Nevada Day - the Largest Celebration of Statehood in the Country
Many of us are transplants where statehood celebrations occur every 50 or 100 years, but here in Nevada it is an annual affair. So here is a brief look at this year's event.

Nevada Then And Now is more than just this years theme!

Nevadan's love a parade, but Nevada Day is more than just a parade! It is Nevada's Heritage Celebration, a gathering of community spirit to salute our state's past and look ahead to its future. Nevada Day is a grand celebration commemorating admission to statehood on October 31, 1864. Nevadan's have the distinction of holding the largest statehood celebration in the nation! The highlight is the Nevada Day Parade, now in its 77th year in Carson. This year the Nevada Day Parade takes place on Saturday, October 29, 2016.

If you were lucky or smart enough to be in Carson City on Friday you could have enjoyed the Republican Women's Pancake Breakfast at the Governor's Mansion, a Hot Air Balloon Launch, The Nevada Day Classic Run/Walk, a Military Aircraft Flyover, The Nevada Day Parade, the 42nd Annual Nevada Day World Championship Single Jack Drilling Contest (I wonder what Jill thought of this), Senator Dean Heller's Chili Feed at the Carson Nugget (I understand it was a gas), The Nevada Day Beard Contest (Men's Shaving Club members were not allowed), and a tour of the Governor's Mansion.

So, mark your calendar for October 2017 and head north to Carson City for the celebration.  Click here for the Real Story Behind Nevada Day

November 2:  LVR Board Meeting at Gaudin Porsche

The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Las Vegas Region will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday evening November 2 at Gaudin Porsche.

This month, among other exciting highlights and spirited banter will be the beginning of planning for 2017 events, beginning with the "After-Holiday Party," historically one of the social highlights of the LVR year.

A light dinner will be served. All members are welcome to attend. We're usually finished by 7:30. But then again, you know how those political speeches go on.

For information, contact Mike Dugan at mduganre@gmail.com or 925-470-7706

November  12-13:  Last Driver Education and Driver Training Event of 2016
Please join the Las Vegas Region for our Driver Education and Open Track event at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch.  Our DE events are open to all car marques, so spread the word to all of your car enthusiast friends!

The November event will include our Ground School/Car Control Clinic for first time students at no additional cost.

The Ground School/Car Control clinic is open to ALL first time students.

WE URGE ALL WOMEN MEMBERS AND ASSOCIATE MEMBERS TO CONSIDER COMING OUT FOR THE CLINIC.  It is not just a clinic to teach track driving.  It is a low pressure  car control school where you will learn an incredible amount about safely controlling your car in situations that you may encounter during your daily driving.  You will have a Porsche Club of America Nationally Trained Instructor with you at all times.

Instructors will be available for drivers in all of the Run Groups.

For experienced track drivers, we offer three different run groups, based on experience, for Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced drivers, to maximize Safety and track time (30 minute sessions).  Instructors will be available for all skill levels to help you refine your driving skills.

We will continue to use the challenging 3.4 Mile layout, the favorite configuration of many. This configuration has everything: technical turns, high speed straights, off camber turns, elevation changes......

Registration for this Event is now Open.  The entry price is only $350 for both days, or $225 for either single day.  Register on-line via MotorsportReg.com at http://msreg.com/LVR-HPDE.  That is a $50.00 savings from "at Track" registration costs.  We will not be able to accept credit cards at the track.

Track gates open at 7:00am and the

MANDATORY Driver's Meeting is at 8:00am.

If you are planning to attend be sure to review the requirements for DE Events and have your car inspected before coming to the track.

Detailed information on requirements can be found on our Website:  Driver Education

You can view and download the Tech Inspection Form at: Technical Inspection Form

We would love to have you join us for a fun time honing your driving skills.

November 6 (Sunday):  Members' Breakfast

This is about as close to a meeting that the Las Vegas Region ever has, and it's not really a meeting, just a social event. Made-to-order breakfasts, from eggs to omelettes to pancakes and a seemingly endless buffet with just about anything you could imagine including smoked salmon (plus onions and capers and bagels), unlimited bacon and sausages, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, muffins, pastries and CINNAMON BUNS, and on and on.

The cost for the unlimited breakfast is just $14 per person, payable upon entry to the dining room.   And, we have our own coffee and juice bar in our part of the dining room.

There are announcements for those who don't read this Newsletter.

We have the entire entry circle for parking to ourselves; it's quite a Porsche show itself. The dining room is spacious and quiet (except for the frequent spirited discussion). The socializing is lots of fun.

It can't get any better.  It's your own fault if you miss it.  But, we are there at the good graces of the RRCC, and they would appreciate us dressing for the occasion and location:  no cargo shorts, no short shorts, no untucked shirts unless hem is even all around (shirt-tails must be tucked in).  No shower clogs. Collared shirts only.  And tipping is always welcome, including the valet, who watches over our cars while we're inside.

Sentimental Sunday:  The scans from the past continue

We continue our review of the historic "Burma Shave" road signs from our distant past:
SHE KISSED THE HAIRBRUSH
BY MISTAKE.
SHE THOUGHT IT WAS
HER HUSBAND JAKE.
Burma Shave.
