Editor's Thoughts:

We had a couple of inquiries asking why we didn't have coverage or pictures of the LVR Drivers' Education event two weeks ago ...... Well, the reason is that we didn't receive any information or photos to print.

Apparently, none of our staff was there (we do know that all of the Linotype operators were off at another one of their parties), and no one sent us any information.

We're always happy to put event results, information, and photos in this Newsletter if we get them. Since just about everyone has a camera with them all the time, we invite all of you to take a photo or two during an event (no selfies please) and send them, along with an information-filled caption, to either or both of us:
quais64@me.com    or   philreese356@gmail.com

We'll print the best/most interesting of them, pay you the same rates that we pay our full-time staffers, and will give photo credits.

That's it for this week;

Notice from the Board:  It's Election Time!
  • It's still election time for Las Vegas Region Officers. You still have three days to go before we close up the ballot box on November 30.
Ballots have been distributed to LVR members by separate e-mail.
But don't wait until the last minute, you don't want to miss participation in this important privilege. So far, no one has hacked into our election, but we're watching out. Look for your ballot and vote.
  • A Bylaws Committee was appointed to update the LVR Bylaws, and has agreed on several amendments and updates. The amended Bylaws are posted on the LVR web site for your review and comment. If you have comments, please send them by email to this Newsletter at lvrnewsletter@gmail.com. The Board will consider any comments received, and is expected to adopt the amendments at either the December 7, 2016 or the January 4, 2017 Board meeting, depending on the nature of the comments received.
  • We note that there is a web site that purports to be the Las Vegas Region web site, but it is not. Our LVR web site is ......      www.lasvegaspca.com

Don't be fooled by any other impostor LVR web sites; they are neither accurate nor up-to-date.

Marque of the Week at Cars and Coffee

There is a new wrinkle beginning next week at Cars and Coffee. Every week, there will be a "Marque of the Week."  The designated weekly marque will have its cars parked together in reserved spaces under the overhead nearest the buildings. Porsche will be the Marque of the Week on December 10.

So bring yours, and join the hoard of Porsches at Cars and Coffee at Speed Vegas on Saturday December 10, and park with all the others in the prime spots.

State Park Expeditions Update (or let's wait for Spring and the snow is melted up north)

We have two more State Park Expeditions planned, one to the Elko area to visit two parks and one to the Carson City/Lake Tahoe area to visit six others.  Details will finalized and presented in a future newsletter after the ice melts off the lakes and the snow from our backyards.

November 18-27:  LA Auto Show and Opening of Porsche Experience Center

Porsche at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2016

Our roving Newsletter Contributors, Salomon and Jackie Braun, were in Los Angeles for the Auto Show and submitted some impressive pictures as Porsche introduced the new Panamera Executive models and the new 911 for the racetrack.

At the end of the year, four Executive models will celebrate their world premieres: the Panamera Turbo Executive, Panamera 4S Executive, Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Executive and Panamera 4 Executive.  These highly luxurious version have a wheelbase that has been extended by 5.9 inches and were designed a "chauffeur saloons".

One innovation is the basic engine of the four-door models. The fully redesigned 3.0-litre V6 turbo engine is the new entry-level model for the Gran Turismo class, and is used in the Panamera 4 Executive, the Panamera with rear-wheel drive and the Panamera 4 with all-wheel drive.

In addition to the Panamera, Porsche also introduced its new race car, the 911 RSR.  The new GT will make its debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January, 2017.  So, uncork the champagne and pass around some cigars. Porsche celebrating the birth of a new factory race car from Stuttgart. Porsche officially unveiled its new "mid-engined", 911 RSR GT race car, at the Los Angeles Auto Show Wednesday. Isn't she lovely? Isn't she wonderful?

This new 911 RSR's mid-mounted engine is a newly-developed, naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six that the German automaker said pumps out 510-horsepower through a six-speed sequential gearbox. And not only does the new 911 RSR have a new, more-forward motor, it's also significantly better than its predecessors in every other way, shape, and form. "While retaining the typical 911 design, this is the biggest evolution in the history of our top GT model," said Porsche Motorsport head Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser.

One of the areas Porsche said the new 911 RSR truly excels is aerodynamic efficiency, thanks to a top-mounted rear-wing- borrowed straight off the 919 Le Mans car. Additionally, a badass, huge diffuser hanging off the rear of the car, will helps retain downforce. Given all of that, we can't even fathom how capable this beast will be on the track.

Porsche is adding collision avoidance tech, too. The 911 RSR is getting a radar-based system that gives its driver a heads-up if a faster car is coming up behind it so that the racer can move out of the way without issue. That might sound silly but, as we've seen before, those can be harrowing and treacherous situations.

Porsche opens new Experience Center

With the new Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles the sports car manufacturer is expanding its worldwide network of centres.

On a site spanning 50 acres, customers and fans can experience the Porsche brand up-close and personal, and put the power, sportiness and safety of the vehicles to the test for themselves. The new headquarters of Porsche Motorsport North America is also located here.

Los Angeles is the second location of this kind in the USA. The Experience Center in Atlanta was opened in May 2015 together with the new US company headquarters. A total of 160 million US dollars was spent on the two projects - 60 million dollars of which was invested in the Los Angeles site. In addition to Los Angeles and Atlanta, there are also experience centres in Le Mans, Silverstone, and Leipzig. The next large construction project is already under way in Shanghai, with the opening scheduled for the coming year.

"Over 100,000 guests worldwide in 2016 is an impressive testament to this concept and demonstrates the fascination that the brand holds for people", says Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board responsible for Sales and Marketing at Porsche AG. "In the age of the digital revolution, real-life driving experiences are becoming increasingly important for our brand. Our cars represent performance and driving pleasure - and this is exactly what our customers can enjoy in the experience centres. With the new location in Los Angeles, we are also gaining a strategically important brand world."

Visitors can take part in a 90-minute driving program

The new Experience Center in Los Angeles is conveniently located on Interstate 405 and is easily accessible from three airports. It includes a 6.5-kilometre test and development track with eight training modules, a periodically changing racing car exhibition, and a gourmet restaurant. Visitors can take part in a 90-minute driving program led by an instructor on the test track. The eight training modules cover two circuits, an off-road course, a dynamic area, a start control and acceleration straight as well as a low-friction circuit and a skid pan.

A glass wall in the entrance hall affords visitors a glimpse into the workshop

Porsche Motorsport North America, which is also located in Los Angeles, is the only authorized provider in the USA and Canada for the sale, parts supply, and customer service of all specially manufactured Porsche racing cars, such as the 911 GT3 Cup, 911 GT3 R and the Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Porsche Motorsport North America also provides maintenance services for engines and transmissions, racing support at several international racing series, as well as repair services. A glass wall in the entrance hall of the Porsche Experience Center affords visitors a glimpse into the workshop, where historical racing cars are repaired, track vehicles are maintained and racing cars are exhibited by owners and collectors.
Alongside China, North America is one of the most important sales regions for Porsche. In California alone, Porsche Cars North America sold around 23%, or 12,000, out of a total of almost 51,800 vehicles handed over to customers in the USA in 2015.

After all this touring it was time to take in a movie

December 7 (Wednesday) 6:00 pm:  LVR Board Meeting at Gaudin Porsche

The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Las Vegas Region will be held at 6 pm on Wednesday evening December 7 at Gaudin Porsche.

This month, among other exciting highlights and spirited banter will be the beginning of planning for 2017 events, including finalizing arrangements for the January "After-Holiday Party," the premier kick-off event of the LVR year. We also plan to review the results of the voting for 2017 LVR Officers, in preparation for the announcement in this Newsletter. Finally, the Board will review the Bylaw amendments recommended by the Amendment Committee for possible adoption for beginning in 2017.

A light dinner will be served. All members are welcome to attend. We're usually finished by 7:30. But then again, you know how we can beat the dead horse. Sometimes I think that we follow the rule: "Everything's been said, but everybody hasn't said it yet."

For information, contact Mike Dugan at mduganre@gmail.com or 925-470-7706

December 4 (Sunday):  Members' Breakfast. 9:00 am

This is about as close to a meeting that the Las Vegas Region ever has, and it's not really a meeting, just a social event. Made-to-order breakfasts, from eggs to omelettes to pancakes and a seemingly endless buffet with just about anything you could imagine including smoked salmon (plus onions and capers and bagels), unlimited bacon and sausages, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit, muffins, pastries and CINNAMON BUNS, and on and on.

The cost for the unlimited breakfast is just $14 per person, payable upon entry to the dining room.   And, we have our own coffee and juice bar in our part of the dining room.

There are announcements for those who don't read this Newsletter, and sometimes free car magazines are given away on a FC-FS basis.

We have the entire entry circle for parking to ourselves; it's quite a Porsche show itself. The dining room is spacious and quiet (except for the frequent spirited discussion). The socializing is lots of fun.

It can't get any better.  It's your own fault if you miss it.  But, we are there at the good graces of the RRCC, and they would appreciate us dressing for the occasion and location:  no cargo shorts, no short shorts, no untucked shirts unless hem is even all around (shirt-tails must be tucked in).  No shower clogs. Collared shirts only.  And tipping is always welcome, including the valet, who watches over our cars while we're inside.
