2018 Calendar Getting Around with the Las Vegas Region
Note: This is the 2018 Event Calendar for the Las Vegas Region.
Note that we've put our own LVR events in BLACK (except for date changes). Non-region
listed in blue and are sometimes described down toward the end of the Newsletter.
Board meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday at Gaudin Porsche.
Members' Breakfasts are held at the Red Rock Country Club.
Comments, questions, suggestions regarding this Newsletter may be sent to: email@example.com
More information about the Las Vegas Region may be found at http://www.lasvegaspca.com
This week, let's talk about our web site.
Did you know that the Las Vegas Region has a web site?
We do; it's www.lasvegaspca.com.
Our webmaster, Ken Short, posts the minutes of the monthly Board of Directors meetings on the site after they are approved by the Board. So, if you want to see what goes on at the Board meetings, you can read about it on the web site. Unfortunately, very little of the fun we have at the meetings is captured in the minutes. For that you must come to the Board meeting.
These weekly Newsletters are also archived there. The calendar of events is there as well, we hope exactly the same as appears above in the yellow block. There are pictures from our events, info on the Region staff, and lots of other stuff.
There is an old, obsolete, and no longer used web site out there somewhere, that sometimes comes up in a search for LVR information. We forget what the URL is, but simply ignore any site that is not named exactly as indicated above.
We're unsure of just how often the LVR web site is viewed or used. The site server (a digital something-or-other, little understood by any of us here), as for all PCA Regions, is maintained by PCA National. We understand from Ken that PCAN is unwilling or unable to tell us how many "hits" our site gets, each week or each month or each year. If this is the case, we can't understand how that's justified. Certain LVR resources are expended on the web site, and we'd like to know if the expenditures are justified.
But anyway, feel free to visit lasvegaspca.com. Comments appreciated.
Notices from the Board:
The new Board has spent much of January meeting working on the calendar of events for this year. The yellow calendar above reflects some of that work. In addition, the Board is investigating/planning other events such as a Tonopah weekend; a Southern Utah drive; a lunch drive to Mt. Charleston; a photo rally; a mini-golf tournament w/dinner; an evening at the Spring Mountain Theater; a dinner cruise on Lake Mead; and several others.
The Region's web site is www.lasvegaspca.com
Our Facebook page is LVRPCA Facebook
Members Dream Cars . . . Mike Warzocha sends us this:
Purchased last December, my nephew photographed me in my Boxster (with his drone) at the end of my street. I finished the rest of the layout in Photoshop (ed. note: Very cool picture and the car is even cooler).
If you or a family member have a recently acquired a Porsche and would like to share it with us, send a picture and short caption to: firstname.lastname@example.org and we will highlight in a future newsletter.
Now . . . . on to the Coming (or just happened) Events
Feb 11 (Second Sunday): Members' Breakfast at the Red Rock Country Club, 9 am
The breakfast will be just as good as they always are.
Our investigative staff has been looking into the "How much did we pay?" controversy that erupted last month. It seems that our Club has been paying less for breakfast than have the actual members of the Red Rock Country Club and the Club is attempting to smooth this out. The solution lay in the inclusion of tax and gratuity in the charge -- or not. We think the cost for breakfast today will be $16.50 per person, including tax and 18% gratuity.
This still looks like a good deal to us, and may in fact be a reduction in price to those of us who have been leaving a separate gratuity.
Following breakfast, there will be an escape adventure. This will be at "ESCAPEability" located about a 15-minute drive from the Red Rock Country Club. We will start around 11:30 or 11:45 if we are all there early.
Feb 11 (Sun): Escape Room Adventure; following breakfast
What is an ESCAPE Room?
An Escape Room is a new and exciting concept. You're going to be in a live interactive game where you and your friends will be immersed in a truly unique scenario. Your objective is to escape the room(s) by figuring your way out in 60 thrilling minutes or less. There will be clues, puzzles, and props you will need to figure out. Teamwork and communication will be vital to your team's success. Do you have what it takes to be victorious and conquer your surroundings and ESCAPE? There's only one way to find out...
Ever wonder what Las Vegas was like in the 1940's? Well now you can experience it first hand as a true mobster. You and your team will be tested by none other than Bugsy Siegel to see if you are clever enough to run his casino. Race against the clock or race against each other/another team. See who is worthy. Will it be you?
Go on a treacherous journey to Mars. You and your crew are sent to investigate what happened to the missing astronauts from previous missions. NASA has found that there is possibly life on Mars and it could be the threat that took down previous teams. Figure out what happened and escape the Martians before it's too late.
Travel back to the time of the ancient Roman Empire. You and your group are gladiators who find themselves imprisoned in their quarters during the most prolific volcanic eruption man has ever known. You will need to work together to escape the city of Pompeii. Will you be able to flee the wrath of Mount Vesuvius and rise from the ashes?
LOCATION: Escapeability Las Vegas
3100 S. Durango #106, Las Vegas, NV, 89117
Pricing: Cost is $27 to $35 per person, paid at arrival. But the more who sign up, the lower the cost per person. This will be a couple of hours of different mental fun; we'll be able to try several rooms (if you escape).
Please contact our eventmaster, Gwen Pearce at email@example.com to reserve a spot on this special adventure.
Eventmasters Scott and Gwen point us to the web site www.escapeabilitylv.com for information.

Feb 24 (Sat): Tech Session at Premier Sportscar Service
Following up on the successful tech session on fluids several months ago, where we darn near wore out the presenters with questions, this will be another joint presentation by Kent Moore and Tony Mazzagatti, this time on suspension and handling of our Porsches.
It will be held at Premier Sportscar Service, 5325 Polaris Ave, Las Vegas. Time: TBD
For more info, contact Doug Pierce at: email@example.com
March 11 (Sunday): Members' Breakfast at the Red Rock Country Club, 9 am
Note that this is the SECOND Sunday of March.
March 25 (Sunday): The Gamblers Rally. An LVR fun event.
An entertaining (we hope) and easy Sunday drive, ending at lunch, along which you can test your luck at cards and dice.
The start will be at 9:30 am under the big sign at the Henderson Fiesta, with the first car off at about 10:00. No cost to enter. Nothing to bring except your car and yourselves (maybe bring a pencil or a pen). No timing or speeds required. About 2 to 2-1/2 hours in duration.
Families and 4-door Porsches welcome. Prizes for the podium finishers.
