Beginning May 6, 2018 (that's today), the newsletter will be issued on a semi-monthly basis on the first and third Sunday of each month.  This will provide our staff of editors, reporters, photographers, proofreaders, typesetters, and other contributors a chance to consider new and exciting formats for communicating club activities.

If you have any pictures, articles, descriptions of a recent drive, or any information that may be of interest to our members, please submit them to Jim Miller at quais64@me.com before Noon on the Friday preceding the first or third Sunday of the month for inclusion in the upcoming newsletter.

Editor's Thoughts:

We are presenting an extensive photo gallery of the Porsche Treffen Tamaya held last week in New Mexico.  Well over 300 Porsche members from around the USA (including 13 from the Las Vegas Region) attended this semi-annual PCA social event.  Special thanks to Tamela Kahle, Alex Harbison, and Dave Sunderhaft for contributing the photos below.

The next Treffen is scheduled for Banff, Canada September 12-15, 2018.  Look for information in upcoming newsletter later this summer, but the save the date.  The drives in and around Banff and Lake Louise will be spectacular, providing this winter's snow has melted or there is no new snow on the roads.  In that case all bets are off.
Notices from the Board:

  • New members -  The Las Vegas Region welcomes these new members to our club and look forward to seeing them at  an upcoming event:

  • New Website
The Region's web site is  www.lasvegaspca.com.  Have you checked it out lately?  No?  Well you are not alone.  While the website was "state of the art/science" when created, it has fallen behind the times and does not draw much attention.  We are looking to rectify that situation and plan to update all of our communication media for our region --- our website, facebook, and newsletter. While we think we are creative, there exists a real possibility that there are people out there who may have some great ideas or have seen other websites that really grab ones attention and drive people to explore it.  So we are seeking ideas and suggestions from our members on how to improve the site.  Our goal is to have an integrated site where all information can be accessed seamlessly across the various media.

If, in the course of your ventures on the web, you see a website (whether it is an automotive site or not) that you particularly like, or a feature, layout, menu, picture gallery on a website that seems particularly good, please copy and paste the URL (website address) into an email and send it to our website design committee members at:

  • Joan Kramer
As noted last week, active member and Secretary for our region, Joan Kramer, has recently undergone a double-lung transplant in Phoenix.  Joan is out of the hospital and her recovery has been progressing nicely. Her family has been very supportive and serve as caregivers to Joan a daily basis.

Daughter Jordan quit her job and relocated herself and family to Phoenix to care for her mother. Lodging in Phoenix, a house payment in Las Vegas, and medical costs not covered by Medicare or other insurance are overwhelming them.  The bills for living expenses are mounting.
Joan is on the verge of depression affecting her recovery and desperately needs help.  Any amount donated, no matter how small, will help and be greatly appreciated.  If you can help in any way, please lease enter "GoFundMe" and click on Joans-Fight to see her picture and donation page.   Joan and family thank you for your thoughts, prayer, and support.

Now . . . . on to the Coming (or just happened) Events
April 25 -28:  Treffen Tamaya, New Mexico
Treffen is German for "To Meet".   So just after sunrise (or so it seemed) on Tuesday, April 24, a sleepy group of nine LVR members in five Porsches treffened at the entrance to Lake Mead to head east to Bernalillo, NM (that's just north of Albuquerque) for a long weekend of driving, dining and sightseeing in Old New Mexico.
Our DriveMeister, Alex Harbison convinced member Jim Miller to "bring up the rear" of the group during our drive to Kohl's Ranch Lodge in Payson, Arizona.
But I get ahead of myself.  We reached Prescott, AZ in time for lunch.  The group could not agree on where to eat, so we formed two groups -- one went to Mama's for Pizza while the others headed over Arizona's oldest bar, the Palace Station for some old west hospitality.
Our waitress, Gerty, served up a some great tea, lemonade, and juicy burgers.  One of our members got a bit confused on the way out of Prescott and hooked up with the wrong group on the way out of town.

The next day, after a hearty breakfast, we continued our journey to Bernalillo, AZ and the Hyatt Regency Tamaya, the host hotel for the week's drives and dining experiences.
Once again, drivemeister  Alex sent many up to old Santa Fe and the plaza where we found the staircases were as twisty as the roads.
Jan Sunderhaft shields her eyes from the reflections off the bevy of Porsches parked on the way to Los Alamos.  Everyone eagerly awaited the next of what seemed to be an endless number of buffets featuring southwestern dishes.
Smiles were the apparel of the week.
We proved, beyond a shadow of doubt, that a 911 IS a family car, although we also proved that one CANNOT, spend much time in the back seat.
After more than 1,000 miles in a Boxster with the top down, LVR member Reid Smith was a wanted man (wait, isn't he our Treasurer? Hmmmm!)
At the end of the day we gathered for a group portrait (due to a family emergency
LVR members Phil and Linda Reese we unable to be present for this group shot).

August 2 - 6 (Thursday-Monday):  State Park Expedition Grande Finale

The Exalted Supreme Ruling Council has run off to somewhere in the midwest to drive some alpha-numeric supercar and asked for a break, which we are happy to provide.  So, this week we simply remind everyone that the drive is a mere three months away and that reservations for lodging can be made anytime.  Where, you ask?
While you can choose any hotel in the Carson City, NV area, we are recommending The Hardman House Inn and Suites. It is centrally located in Carson City near city center and provides a free Continental Breakfast, Wi-Fi, and parking. It does not allow pets.  Both smoking and non-smoking rooms are available.
While rated a 2 star establishment, its guests rate it 8.6/10.0 or 3.7/5.0 depending upon which site you book the room through.
The address is:
Hardman House Inn and Suites
917 North Carson Street
Carson City, Nevada 89701
Reservation Center 844-417-9397
Should this not be to your liking there are several national motel chains located nearby: Days Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn and Suites, Motel 6, etc.
If you plan to remain for the entire adventure plan to check in on Thursday, August 2 and check out Monday, August 6. When we check out and depart the hotel on Monday, August 6 that will be the official end of our Expedition.

Just a gentle reminder we are leaving early on the morning of Thursday, August 2 and currently planning to return on Monday, August 6.

Exalted Grand Supreme Ruling Council would like to remind all Las Vegas region members that information on all Nevada State parks is available at PARKS.NV.GOV.
Perusing this website can help you understand what we are planning to see during our August adventure.
Happy reading!   As the date approaches for this weekend, I will re-review each of the parks. But it is highly recommended that you some research on your own using the above link from the Exalted Grand Supreme Ruling Council.
