Editor's Thoughts:
70 years of Porsche is being celebrated around the world in many unique ways.  Over the next few months we will bring you a video of a celebratory event from somewhere in the world.  Today, New Zealand and 200 Porsches drive across the harbour bridge in Aukland:
As part of the 70 years of Porsche celebrations, over 200 Porsches assembled to drive over the Harbour Bridge in Auckland, New Zealand. Take a look at this impressive sight in this video.
Notices from the Board:

New members -  The Las Vegas Region welcomes these new members to our club and look forward to seeing them at  an upcoming event:
    • Emma Lameynardie, 2006 Cayenne
    • Patty Myrvold, 2006 Cayman S

Now . . . . on to the Coming (or just happened) Events
July 8-14: Porsche Parade at Lake of the Ozarks
Tamela Kahle reports on this year's Parade.
PCA is fueled by volunteers and this year's Parade was no exception.  There were 900 entrants at Lake of the Ozarks and at least 750 people volunteered for something. I participated in multiple volunteer activities.  Husband, Scott attended the Presidents' Meeting and the Presidents' Reception. Both Scott and Alex Haribson are competing in the Time Speed Distance Rally and I am driving the Gimmick Rally.

Porsche unveiled their high performance electric car, Mission E -  to be known as the Taycan (Tie-Kahn).

I think there is an engine back here somewhere!
Thanks to Tamela Kahle and Alex Harbison for the pictures and text from the Parade.
July 27 (Friday): Beat the Heat Drive and Lunch

Join us on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. for a drive to beat the heat. We will first go to Mount Charleston, proceed to Lee's Canyon and end at Paiute Golf Resort for lunch. Mount Charleston is normally 30 degrees cooler than Las Vegas!

We will meet at the IHOP on Cheyenne Blvd. and US-95 (6870 W. Cheyenne Blvd., Las Vegas, NV) for a driver's meeting at 9:00 a.m. We will leave for the drive at 9:30 a.m. After our drive through the cooler mountains north of Las Vegas, we will conclude the drive at Paiute Golf Resort for a no-host lunch. Looking forward to seeing you then!
August 2 - 6 (Thursday-Monday):  State Park Expedition Grande Finale

This may well be the last communication in the newsletter before we depart on our adventure. Just as a reminder:
  • What: Great Nevada State Park Expedition, last leg
  • When: Thursday, August 2, 2018 thru Monday, August 6
  • Where . . . parks we will visit:
    • Lahontan Recreational Area
    • Washoe Lake SP, Lake Tahoe Nevada SP
    • Dayton SP
    • Fort Churchill State Historic Park
    • Mormon Station Historic Park
  • Departure Point:
    • Cracked Egg
    • 5570 Painted Mirage Rd
    • Las Vegas
    • Located just off Ann Road Exit of US95
    •  Cracked Egg opens at 6:00AM
  • Drivers Meeting: Cracked Egg parking lot at 7:00AM on 8/2/18
  • On the Road: 7:30 AM on 8/2/18
  • Carson City lodging: Hardman House Inn and Suites, 917 N Carson St, Carson City 89701. Reservation phone is 844 417-9397.
  • What to bring: Nevada State Park Passport; hand held radios; water and snacks.
We will stop in Beatty at the Candy Store for a 15-minute comfort break. Tonopah is a maybe stop, 95 miles from Beatty, depending upon our needs. The next stop opportunity is Hawthorne, about 200 miles from Beatty.
We will travel up US 95 until we get to Shurz where we will divert to US 95 ALT. We will make a quick stop at Lahontan State Recreation Area to get our Passports stamped and from there on up to US 50 and on to the motel.  While no formal meal plan has been made I do think taking a picnic dinner out to Washoe Lake State Park is something we should consider. This park is only a few miles from our hotel.
Friday our plan is to visit Lake Tahoe Nevada SP and Mormon Station Historic SP in Genoa. Hopefully we will have enough time to take the famous Kingsbury grade over to Mormon Station. Plan to be on the road by 0800 hours and perhaps lunch in the quaint town of Genoa.
Saturday plan is to visit Washoe Lake SP and Dayton SP.
Sunday we will visit Fort Churchill Historic SP. Some may wish to head home after this visit. Your call. Others will depart on Monday, August 6, for the home. The tour officially ends at the Cracked Egg on Monday. The route home may be different from the North bound route.
Come one come all. We currently have 5 cars and 9 members planning on attending. If you haven't made arrangements ahead of time, that is OK, please join us anyway. You WILL have a great time.

The Exalted Grand Supreme Ruling Council Scribe would like to remind all Las Vegas region members that information on all Nevada State parks is available at PARKS.NV.GOV.

Perusing this website can help you understand what we are planning to see during our August adventure.
Happy reading!   As the date approaches for this weekend, I will re-review each of the parks. But it is highly recommended that you some research on your own using the above link from the Exalted Grand Supreme Ruling Council.
September 12-15: Treffen Banff is SOLD OUT

Drive, dine, and explore in Canada's Banff National Park during the upcoming Treffen North America.  Registration opened June 13 and sold out quickly.

September 27 - 30:  Rennsport Reunion VI

Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) unveiled the artwork commissioned to represent Rennsport Reunion VI, the sixth iteration of the world's largest gathering of all generations of Porsche race cars and their drivers. The four-day "family reunion" takes place September 27-30 at legendary WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca near Monterey. Posters for past Rennsport Reunions quickly became collectors items.

This year's event will honor the full pantheon of Porsche motorsport champions, and the poster depicts three of the most significant players: the 1960 12 Hours of Sebring-winning Type 718 RS 60, the first overall endurance race winner from Porsche; the 2008 RS Spyder which finished first overall while running in LeMans Prototype LMP2 class in the American Le Mans Series; and the 959 Group B rally car, which after winning the grueling 6,200 mile Paris-Dakar off-road rally in 1986 went on to become the world's fastest production street-legal road car.

A limited number of ticket packages, along with options for camping and hospitality, are available directly from WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, either by calling 831-242-8200 or online HERE.  General Admission & paddock access is free for children 15 years and under with a paying adult.
September 29-30: RennRun 2018
Not going to Monterey for Rennsport Reunion.  Well, we have an alternative for you.  RennRun is a gathering of 996 enthusiasts from across the Nation, as well as a weekend to celebrate the car we love - the Porsche 911. We welcome all Porsche cars to share the road with us and take an opportunity to get to know the first water-cooled 911. The event is free to attend, we will be kicking off at the Cars & Coffee show at SpeedVegas on the 29th, and we will be starting bright and early at Cars und Kaffee at Vesta Coffee on the 30th. Group drives, activities, and group meals listed below will be optional, at participant's cost. This is not a PCA or local region sanctioned event. We won't put numbers and stickers on our cars, or anything like that.  It will just be a chance for Porsches and friends old, and new, to meet up.  The full schedule of activities will appear in the next newsletter.
The event is being planned by members of www.996Outpost.com, with the help of members of www.Rennlist.com, so it is largely social in nature. It's an opportunity for Porsche fans that are used to communicating long-distance to get together and chat face-to-face for a change. Suffice it to say, it's difficult to leave the RennRun without making a lot of new friends!
Want more information?  Contact Adam Martin at (martinafterall@gmail.com) or visit:  www.996Outpost.com.
Ready to sign up?  The RSVP page is here: http://evite.me/aXjZ93tanG

Look for a detailed schedule of activities in the coming weeks.
(editors note:  This is a non-LVRPCA, pay-as-you-go event.  Nonetheless, it is hosted by and for Porsche enthusiasts of all persuasions and well worth looking into.)
October 1 - 3: No Frills, Tri-State (NV, AZ, & UT), Fall Fling

The No Frills Bottom Buster Motoring Tour (BBMT) will hold a Tri State Tour, October 1-3 (Monday to Wednesday).  The tour will start and finish in Las Vegas.  In No Frills tradition you will be expected to make your own arrangements for accommodations.

Las Vegas Region, Porsche Club of America  SPELLING BEE CONTEST

The goal in this contest is to have a photograph of the entrant's Porsche positioned so that the checkpoint identifier and the Porsche license are in the frame of the photograph.

  2. Checkpoints (CP) are defined as a civic/public building or its identifier. (City Hall, named Police station, City Park identifier, etc.) For example, "The Grant Sawyer Building", either the "G" or the "S" could be used as one of the letters, but not the "T" or "B".
  3. The same Identifier may not be used for multiple letters
  4. All Checkpoints must be within Clark County, Nevada. These Checkpoints may be visited at the entrant's convenience and in any order.
  5. Photographs (digital or printed) are the only acceptable proof of the visit to the Checkpoints.

Before we go . . . LeMans Classic

The LeMans Classic only happens every couple of years, but boy is it worth waiting for...
the major novelty at LeMans Classic in 2018 was the arrival of Global Endurance Legends of the Le Mans 24 Hours from 1923 to 2014!
If you are not familiar with the LeMans Classic, here's a brief introduction: now in its ninth running, the Classic takes place every two years and brings sportscar racers from the 1920s to the 1990s together for a weekend of competition. Those races are held during the daytime and the night, with crowds typically half the size of the iconic 24-hours of LeMans weekend. Plus, there's a huge classic car show on at the same time. If that hasn't sold it to you, then nothing will; if LeMans Classic does sound like your cup of tea, though, then rest assured it's every bit as good as it sounds.
It is great if you only love classic cars, fantastic if you only really love historic motorsport, and absolutely staggering if you're a fan of both. While the very high temperatures may put a few potential attendees off (along with its every-other-year scheduling, which means it always clashes with either the World Cup or European football championships), there's nothing that can compare to the Classic for sheer class of car, both on the track and off it. We'll see you there in 2020, of course.
