Editor's Thoughts:  All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand.  Speaking of raising one's
hand . . . it can signify many things:  I am present, I know the answer to your question, I have to go to the bathroom, or I vote "for" or "against" something.  The Polls for our state and national elections close in two days.  If you voted early, thank you.   If you haven't voted, remember to do so before the polls close on Tuesday evening.

In the 2016 elections, nearly 43 percent of eligible voters did not exercise their right to vote, according to the Washington Post. Of the 232 million eligible voters, only 132 million voters cast a ballot in the 2016 elections. There are many reasons why people do not vote, including not believing their voices are heard, long lines and other barriers at the poll, or simply forgetting to even show up on election day.

Regardless of your political leaning, if you want your favorite candidate to represent your views in the state or country, you must vote.  If you don't vote, you have no right to complain about the direction of our legislative bodies.  So, get out and vote before the polls close on Tuesday.
Notices from the Board:  Election Reminder
In addition to our National and State elections, the PCA National Elections and the LVR Board Elections are also happening right now.  So, be sure to send in your PCA ballot and check your email for the region ballot.
We all looking forward to a great year in 2019. Let's try to create a year even better than this current year.

Don't ask IF it is for you . . . Think . . . It IS for You!
Jim Miller, Las Vegas Region
So, have you been dreaming about what it would be like to drive your car at its and your limits and how it would handle?  Yet that thought remains a dream.  Well you have less than two weeks to turn that dream into reality . . . all you have to do is register for the Las Vegas Region PCA High Performance Driver Education Program (HPDE or 'DE' for short) and your dreams will be realized!
I remember when I attended my first DE way back in 1987.  I lived in Minnesota (the North Star state) and had joined the local PCA Region . . . Nord Stern (German for North Star).  I was quite nervous, but excited, too.  I had always enjoyed speed and was looking forward to an opportunity to take my spanking new 924S on the track. The day was sunny, my instructor was knowledgeable, I learned a ton and, most importantly, I had a great time. It was a spectacular experience. I have come a long way since then, and I am thankful I was encouraged to try it because I definitely caught the "track bug."
My wife, Bobbi, also caught the "track bug" and attended her first school the next year, and the rest is history. We owned our 924S for 30 years, made several modifications to make it track even better, and, between the two us, have put somewhere in the range of 80,000 track miles on it.  We participated in Drivers Education events on tracks in Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, California and Nevada.  We both became PCA Certified Instructors and shared our learning and track experiences with people who were in the position we were in over 30 years ago.
A PCA Drivers Education Program starts with a technical inspection of your car.  Once cleared to participate in the event, you proceed to a Ground School, which is a classroom orientation, a car control clinic, and multiple on-track sessions with a highly qualified, experienced, and nationally certified instructor sitting next to you.  You will learn the basics of controlling your car, how to skillfully maneuver it at higher speeds, and be instructed fully on track etiquette & safety, all while driving your own sports car.
Upon successful completion of the Ground School program and maintaining a clean on-track record of several sessions with your Instructor in the right seat, your instructor will certify you to "solo" on the track.  This may require a 'check-out' ride with the region's Chief lnstructor to verify your skills.  However, a check-out ride is a great way to get another view of how to drive the track as well as get some guidance on improving your technique.
More Information:  Check out the Las Vegas Region Website at http://lvs.pca.org and click through to DRIVER EDUCATION on the ACTIVITIES (What We Do) link on the home page.
Question? Please contact Scott Mann, Chief Driving Instructor, PCA Las Vegas Region. Also, he is the 'CDI' for Zone 8 (South Western US) and is a DE National Committee Member. Scott has the pleasure of travelling throughout the US and Canada for the PCA conducting instructor training courses and experiencing over 50+ historic tracks. He can be reached at (702) 739-8011, or e-mail at scott@renegadehybrids.com
Be forewarned. . . participating once may lead to a dangerous addiction where you want to participate in every Las Vegas track event!  However, even if you only gain an enhanced appreciation for sports car racing, you definitely will learn more about how to drive and control your car under a variety of circumstances, which of course is immensely beneficial just in your day-to-day driving.
December 1-2 (Sat-Sun): Tech Tactics West

Tech Tactics West is a day dedicated to Porsche technical information. This event is for the casual information gatherer, the everyday Porsche mechanic and all Porsche enthusiasts in-between. Participants will be treated to a day of presentations by auto industry experts, including Porsche Cars North America Specialists, members of the PCA Technical Committee and special guest speakers. Held at the Porsche Training facility in Eastvale, CA, this state-of-the-art facility is used to train Porsche technicians and is perfect for this "hand-on" type of event.

Speakers include members of the Porsche Motorsports team, Michelin Tire Technology specialist Steve Calder, Griot's Garage products demo, PCNA technician Andrew Lennon, Porsche valuations expert Nathan Merz and, just confirmed, Stephen Mitas, chief engineer on the 919 EVO Hybrid!

Rusnak Pasadena Porsche will also have a parts store available for your convenience.

Each day contains the same curriculum, includes refreshments, and a boxed lunch. Tickets for each day are $75 and limited to 125 entrants per day. Onsite check-in opens at 8:00am, opening introductions begin at 8:30am with the first speaker going on at 9:00am. The day's presentations will end by 6:00pm.

Las Vegas Region, Porsche Club of America SPELLING BEE CONTEST

The Spelling Bee contest has ended.

Unfortunately, there are no winners. The judges have carefully checked each entry against the rules and determined that among them, there were no complete, correct entries.

After much discussion among the judges, it was determined that a congratulatory letter be sent to those who had submitted an entry.

I would like to thank all those that took the time to participate in the contest.

John Burrows
Before we go . . . 911 GT2 RS Manthey-Racing is the Fastest Road-Legal Car on the Ring

Stuttgart. Porsche has set another new record on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife in cooperation with Manthey-Racing. On Thursday, 25 October 2018, the Porsche GT2 RS MR with 700 hp completed a lap of the 20.6 kilometer long circuit in 6:40.3 minutes. No other road-legal vehicle has ever been so fast on 'The Green Hell' track. Lars Kern was at the wheel of the sports car, which had been especially set up for the 'Nordschleife' by Porsche engineers and Manthey-Racing experts. The Porsche test driver already set a lap record in September 2017 in a series-production Porsche 911 GT2 RS

If interested call Al at 702-50 ONE-7 FOUR FOUR 8.  (Editor's note: First name only and phone number format are to protect the privacy of our member).
