Georganne AKA Gigi grew up here in Vegas in an aviation-oriented family and was a Grand Prix winning horse rider in her teens back when you could ride down the Strip. She then became a flight Attendant and in the 90’s supported troop movements to the Middle East during Desert Storm. She then became a hair stylist for 20 years just recently retiring.
My name is Curt, AKA Greyhound. I grew up in Long Beach Calif. Joined the Air Force at 17 crewing my first KC 135 Tanker at 20 years old. After 10 years I left the service to go on to work at Douglas Aircraft, FEDEX, Delta and several other aviation related firms. I’ve held just about every position there is in the aviation maintenance field. I’m currently an aircraft maintenance manager for a contractor.
We first met in 1992 when I was the technician on one of her flights. I guess the fact that she saw me climbing around the top of a 747 eng impressed her? We first lived in Long Beach where I moon lighted as a football coach for my old high school team. Then lived In Mesa Az where I had oversight of FEDEX’s R&D program of the MD-10 aircraft. We then went on to Memphis to supervise the induction of the MD-10 into service. Finally, we came back to Vegas in 2001. Its as far west as we wanted to go. We both have this thing about earthquakes…..For one of our anniversaries we rented a cabin at Zion. We have been back several times since and in approx. 2015 we thought, wouldn’t this be a great place to drive a convertible? More on this below…
In 1978 I was working in downtown Long Beach after school when the Grand Prix came to town and had probably the best seats in town during the races. I caught the bug immediately. I would go on to work in the SCCA pits meeting greats like the Foyts, the Uncers, and the Andrettis. I used to take my mom’s Toyota Corolla wagon to Terminal Island to drag race at ‘Run Whatcha Brung’ on sat nights.
My first vehicle was a VW super Beetle handed down from my dad. We also had a Bus that I was doing eng work on while in middle school. I also had a Honda 750 SS my brother gave me that I rode in my 20’s. My first “sports car” was a Mazda MX-3 that I race tuned and ran at Autocross events in the 90’s.
So, in 2015 after much research and soul searching, we settled on a 2004 Boxster S with 30K miles on it. I went thru the whole vehicle basically 0 timing the mechanics and installing a few bolt on mods and a new sound system of course. It has been an absolute joy to drive on several lengthy road trips never having a problem on the road. Both Gigi and I love to drive her. If we were to name her it would be Kellie, after our first Greyhound. We recently acquired a 2018 Camaro SS that we enjoy playing with.
We joined the PCA a few years ago to find folks with similar interests and desires, and the HPDE. We had been in the “motorcycle club’ scene for nearly 20 until recently, hence the nick name. I still have my 2015 Road glide Special but got fed up with the rules and protocols of MC life. We enjoy having choices of when and where we want to participate. We are now members of the POC also. We love travel, good spirits, even better foods, fun conversation, sporting events, music, rescue dogs, kicking back in our pool and seeing our grand kids in Temecula.
