In 1971, I bought my first Porsche, a ’67 912, as that’s all I could afford. Then in 1973, I Bought another 912, a ’69 this time. After selling those 2 cars at about the same time, I bought a new ’74 911 Targa, which was my daily driver for almost 6 years, I still have it today (well after going thru 2 sons for a period of time with my 3rd son taking my ‘2001 Mini Cooper S!).
After selling my company in ’96, I bought a new ’96 C4S which I eventually sold about 2004. Why I still don’t know, but after experiencing Porsche’s debut of their new Turbo model in March of 2000 at an old F1 track in Jerez, Spain (long story), I decided I had to have a Turbo. Well this never happened! So when we moved to Henderson after my 3-yr gig in Pittsburgh, I wanted to buy a used Turbo. Well with age, lower back and neck issues, getting in and out of a 911 is no easy task for me. Plus, what was I going to do just drive it around Las Vegas when we spend 3-4 months in Park City, UT, during the summer!?!?! Up there we need an SUV that can haul stuff around vs a 2-seater rocket!
Then I came across a Macan Turbo in Orange County at the Porsche dealership there and the rest is history. A friend referred me to Rico Scotti at Gaudin, whom I contacted immediately and told him I wanted a Macan Turbo. Luckily, they just had one in stock. So in Apr, ’16, we bought a dark blue Macan Turbo, with beige interior, and the rest is history. I call it my “911 with 4-doors and a hatchback”. It’s now Michelle’s daily driver when we’re in LV and has about 66,000 miles on it as it’s only driven about 8 months out of the year now. It’s still a hell of a car!
Then last year, we bought a ’22 Cayenne Hybrid as our attempt to ‘Go Green’ and we already have 15,000 miles on it (which is what I have on my lease with one more month to go!?!?!?). It doesn’t have the room my Ford Explorer had, but it suffices for what we need. Its performance is fantastic for being an SUV, which is kinda close to the Macan Turbo, and provides some decent mileage especially when we do city type driving here in LV.
So now we’re a Porsche family with 3 Porsches in our garage! What’s in our future, who knows, but there will always be a Porsche in our garage!
