Meet The Members – Tom Claridge

My first Porsche was a very special one; a 1965 911 GP white/Black tex only option chrome wheels and it even had the teak dash radio cover with gold 911 on it.  This was in 1970 and it only had 2K miles with the threshold plastic on it. I kept it for about 8 years and sold it with less than 10K miles on it — hope it’s still the pristine car it was!

I’ve owned too many Porsches to remember, perhaps 25-30 who knows. I currently own “only” 2 a ’73 Carrera RS 2.7 lt.wt. & a ’23 911 Turbo S cabriolet wht.mt. & lipstick but just sold a Macan for a G63. The Turbo S sure does not need anything done to it, even by my racer standards. This thing is a rocket! Thinking back to my first car many years ago was a ’56 Studebaker Power Hawk with a supercharged 289 V8. It was a show car quality prep, and I really enjoyed it. My favorite non-Porsche was an incredible’66 Ferrari 275GTB/C a rare, one of 12, competition coupe also a show car standard of prep Serial #9041 I’ll never forget! Today it is likely worth in the high $10’s of millions! On a very long long list of things I should never have sold!

I have been driving Porsches for longer than I owned them in race cars owned by others. Got into PCA with racing 356’s & early 911’s in the SE. I think I’ve been a member since 1967 or so. Later through racing I met Peter Gregg at a race @ SIR Savannah, GA. Later he offered me a position running his car dealerships in Jacksonville, FL which included BRUMOS PORSCHE among others around 1973. I stayed there for years but later moved to the SF Bay Area & started my own group of dealerships MB, BMW & Porsche. So, I have been a Porsche dealer for totaling something like 30+ years. I’ve had all manner of rare Porsches: ’60 RS 61(#068), ’65 BergSpyder#906 004), Zagato bodied 356 S90(#111937)! Endless Speedsters, Turbos, Turbo S & GT 2-3’s have been in my keeping for a while.

I’m a Geologist & Economist by schooling and served in the military as a Captain in the Corps. of Engineers (Airborne!) for 4 years in Vietnam at times! I have lived in 11 states and one country too long! I have now lived in Las Vegas for about the last 3 years. My hobbies are CARS, CARS & CARS including racing them for many many years up to including Historic Formula 1, started HGP “Historic Gran Prix” org. Most importantly, I’m married to the very lovely Misty Claridge CPA RE Broker and model.
