July 2023 I had finished the rebuild of my 356 Speedster and it was time for a new project.
Research revealed a 996 TT was the best dollar buy ever.
Starting the search in ‘23 they were $39-45000 . Searched around didn’t see anything appealing. Fast forward to mid-2024 time to get the turbo.
What’s up…..to get close to a 996 TT the pricing went to $55-70,000 in one year. That being more than I wanted to spend for another project , the search began for a 996 coupe.
There was one in Vegas I had an eye on for 2 months , soooo I drove over for an inspection . Nice car silver but an automatic, let’s try it out. Took it for a drive to my shop
O School Choppers to inspect.
By the time I got there the car was leaking coolant like crazy.
Trophy Performance is next door so a visit to Todd confirmed a blown transmission cooler line.
While waiting for the seller to pick up his car , Todd pointed to a black Carrera C4 he had.
Story: he got it 7 years previously and had gone thru the complete car for his own track build.
Rebuilt engine with new pistons and more compression, billet side plates on diff front and rear. CAE track shifter, H/R lowered springs.
Car was very clean with 100,000 miles but only 2000 on complete driveline overhaul.
I offered , he accepted and now I own a 996.1
Love the GT3 front bumpers with smile …Thanks to Todd as he gave me one from the spare parts.
Purchased an 911 RSR ducktail, 8.5” and 11” new wheels from a 2002 , a lil powder coating, graphics, new D steering wheel, color face gauges, wood shift knob and other details and wala my touch’s to my project car.
So now patiently waiting for the next track session, getting used to the car and shifter with drives to Utah PCA meets and Unstock .
Conclusion …. Awesome, quick, reliable and an outstanding value addition to my 970GTS and 356Speedster
