What Binds and Connects Porsche Owners??

While that question may seem to have an obvious answer that is not at all the case. How so you say?

Let me explain if I may. I have found in all my years in various hobbies and passions that most of the people I meet in the Porsche world have other interests and many of them turn out to be shared by many others. As an example for the Porsche and for that matter, the sports car and collectible crowd, many of us share other similar passions with our fellow car friends. So much so that it no longer surprises me as it did many decades ago as I started my lust for Porsches and other great cars. Here is a small list of what I find to be a running theme with fellow Porsche Loyalists.

Porsches

Other Sports and Collectible Cars

Sound Systems and Music

Watches

Cycling

Musical Instruments

Art

World Travel

Inevitably every Porschephile that I meet has at least one of these other passions. I know at least three of my Porsche friends who are serious audiophiles, couples I know are as passionate about cycling as I am, maybe even more dedicated. Many have the passion for fine watches as I do. Their collections make mine look like bargain store watches. The point is that we all have great levels of passion and it isn’t always totally focused on cars. It is a common thread amongst most of our group.

I will just share how ubiquitous this is by my own passions. I may be at the extreme end of this spectrum but certainly not alone.

Many of the people I know in the club I know well enough to know that they have multiple Porsches. A minimum of two and a few people I know have more than five of various vintages and models. Not at all unusual. Almost common I would say. Me? I have only one. For now. My problem is that I have a passion for all of the above. So much so that many people think I need professional help. I agree with that sentiment for various reasons.

My lists are bigger than my budget for such things. So let me share a few pictures with you that explain it.

  1. My 2009 911 Carrera
  2. My music system. Strictly two channel stereo plus large collection of vinyl
  3. Watches
  4. Bicycles had a collection of 21 at one point. That is problem.
  5. Musical Instruments – I play them all. Poorly I must say.

We do have some great art work and we do travel but not like many others.

I agree I can be out of control with my passions but the theme is always the same. High quality, all have high resale value and have very sentimental value to me. I think that is the common thread. Many if not most of us have a deep appreciation of quality in all things and we all seem to gravitate towards collecting those things. I think that thread brings us together as a group on many different levels.

I find myself in the downsizing mode now and removing a lot of clutter but there are items in the above categories I will never get rid of, starting with the 911. I am hoping they will stay in my family long after I am gone.

What do you have a passion for? What collections do you possess.

Feel free to share your stories with me at LVRPCA2025@gmail.com. I would love to share your interests with others. You never know, you may find someone who shares the same passions as you and create a life long friendship. There could be much worse habits and outcomes.
