FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK – JUNE 2026

Full Throttle into Summer

Greetings to all our wonderful Porsche family!

Just as predicted last month, May followed April in quick succession.

First, my apologies for the delayed newsletter last month. We experienced a few growing pains while implementing several changes at once. As with any project involving multiple moving parts, a few unexpected glitches appeared along the way. Thankfully, things are settling down, and we’re excited about the improvements ahead.

🌐 Website

Our new website has officially launched, and we’re thrilled with the results.

A huge thank-you goes to Farhaad Sheikh, who has done an outstanding job leading this transformation. The process has been time-consuming, and we’ve certainly encountered a few roadblocks, but the effort has been worth it.

While we’re still refining some links and activity pages, you’ll immediately notice a cleaner design, improved navigation, and a much more modern platform.

And perhaps most importantly… my car is no longer hogging the home page. πŸŽ‰

🏁 HPDE

Our May 17-18 HPDE event was another success and ran smoothly from start to finish.

We welcomed a strong turnout, including several Taste of the Track participants eager to experience HPDE for the first time. The weather cooperated nicely for most of the weekend, although a substantial windstorm arrived during the final hours on Sunday, carrying away our tent and adding a little extra excitement to the closing sessions.

Despite the windy finale, we hosted nearly 80 drivers over the weekend.

Special thanks go to the entire HPDE team and to Roger Garrell, who once again stepped in as Chief Driving Instructor during Brian’s absence.

We’ll now take our annual summer break from track activities and return in early October when temperatures become a bit more driver-friendly.

As for me, I finally completed my solo sessions at this event, and it was glorious.

I have no plans to make track driving a lifelong pursuit. Let’s face it, once you’re in your 70s, you learn to respect your limitations. Still, I think I have a few more sessions left in me.

One thing is certain: HPDE gives you a whole new appreciation for professional racing drivers.

While reading about the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix, I learned that the Monaco circuit is only about one-tenth of a mile longer than our Charleston Peak course. After a 30-minute session and roughly ten laps, I’m ready for a break. I cannot imagine driving an F1 car at twice the speed for 78 laps.

They’d have to scrape me out of the seat afterward.

And let’s be honest, I’d be so far behind that I might qualify for last place in last year’s race.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Tours

Reid Smith and Richard Cruz continue to organize our exciting Lake Tahoe Tour, scheduled for September 7-11.

The tour is filling quickly, but word on the street suggests additional spaces may become available. We’ll share updates as plans develop.

As a Tahoe native, I cannot think of a better destination for a Porsche tour. If demand warrants it, I’d be more than happy to help lead a second group.

Keep an eye out for future announcements because this is one trip you won’t want to miss.

πŸŒ„ Day Drives

At the moment, we don’t have any Day Drives scheduled for June or July.

If you have an idea for a drive, know a great route, or would like to help organize an event, I’d love to hear from you.

❀️ Charity

We’re continuing our efforts to expand the club’s charitable impact this year.

Currently, we’re focusing on Gaudin Technical Institute and are exploring support opportunities with the Music Academy as well.

Both organizations depend heavily on donations and community support. Investing in programs that benefit young people ultimately benefits all of us.

If you’re looking for a way to make a difference, please consider supporting these outstanding organizations.

πŸ“– Porsche Evolution Series

Be sure to check out Part Two of my series exploring the evolution of Porsche from the original 356 to today’s 992.2 generation.

This month’s installment takes a brief look at the introduction of the legendary 901/911 series and follows its development through the iconic 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, often considered the holy grail of early 911s.

See You on the Road

As always, thank you for helping make our club such a vibrant and welcoming community. Whether we’re meeting at the track, sharing stories over coffee, or exploring scenic roads together, it’s the people who make these experiences memorable.

Drive safely, enjoy every mile, and I’ll see you at the next event. 🏎️🏁
