Every year Porsche hosts the annual reunion in Monterey California. It is one of the best events of the year and it is relatively close to us here in Las Vegas. I have made the trip every year for the past four years and this year will be no exception.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the show for me is that Werks Reunion was created by the Porsche Club of America as an event to celebrate both the Porsche marque as well as the camaraderie of being an enthusiast. This is not a contest of who has removed dust from the deepest crevices in their Porsche but rather a judged show that rewards a Porsche that has been lovingly maintained and presents itself well on the field. The judges do not use Porsche Parade Concours score sheets but rather rank the cars according to certain attributes discussed prior to judging. For those who do not wish to have their cars judged, you may display in the model specific corrals or if the organizers see fit, on the judged field itself. There are no score sheets returned or protest committees. This is a casual gathering of Porsche enthusiasts focused on having fun rather than solely competition. *( this paragraph was pulled from the announcement by and large because it states the intent of the show better than I could)
I have seen Porsches of historical import up close and personal and get great opportunities to meet people from all over the country who make the pilgrimage. In all honesty it has become just that. A yearly pilgrimage. Every year someone brings something truly unique and rarely seen outside of a magazine for the bulk of us Porschephiles.
Cars in the coral are organized by generation, model and years and there are a mind boggling number in each era. I believe the last few years the number of cars has approached 1000.
It is one of the best organized events on the planet with plenty of cars, friendly workers, friendly attendants and Gaudin always enters a car in the restoration challenge. What is exciting is that they have developed a reputation for winning that category year after year. I expect it now! (Take note guys you have set the standards for this now LOL)
This year becoming the new President has not been without a number of challenges added to the fact that I launched a new business in October of last year that required extensive travel, week long trade shows every month, a trip to Denmark and a trip to Germany ( purely business and I only saw a part of Munich), major remodels of our home not the least of which a pool currently being built and I seriously had doubts that I would even want to go but it is such a great event that Paula and I are making the trip again because it is that good and that enjoyable. We have made life long friends because of this show that I cannot imagine my life without their friendship. The really great thing is there is more to it than Porsches. Monterey Car Week is legendary for so many reasons. I can guarantee it is well worth the time and investment and is a must see event for any Porsche owner at least once in. YOUR lifetime.
