Doin’s at Brunch Past and Future

Sunday December 4th, 10:00 a.m.

By Michael Dugan

Many club members met for our monthly brunch on November 11. President Reid Smith welcomed everybody after we had eaten our fill of scrumptious food, enjoyed beautiful views of the grounds of Red Rock Country Club and chatted with other members.

Vice President Barbara Barron recounted the one-of-a-kind get together at Premiere Sportscar Service with Sam Schmidt, an eminent race car driver who became a paraplegic as a result of hitting the wall at Indy backwards at 200 mph. As a result, Sam started a foundation to promote rehabilitation of people inflicted with similar life-changing injuries. His facility “Driven” in Las Vegas provides services at no cost. Barbara also described sold out cooking demo at D’Agostino’s Trattoria restaurant. It was fun and wonderful to savor.

The next brunch is Sunday December 4th (this is the first Sunday of the month for [...]

The first Three-Day DE (Drivers Education) event at Spring Mountain was a huge success.  We got to drive on a new track!  The Charleston Peak track recently opened and this was the first opportunity the PCA had to run on it.

On Friday, we ran our first “open track day.”  This gave our advanced drivers and instructors an opportunity to learn the new course.   This extra day seemed to be popular and we plan to have another three-day event in 2023.

On Saturday and Sunday, we ran our traditional run-groups.  There were nearly 100 registered drivers…. including 15 students.  Congratulations to these new drivers!  We look forward to seeing you back at the track again soon.

Spring Mountain was already a world-class facility and this new track keeps that standard.  With the fast corners, quick essess, some off-camber turns and quick-straights, all of the drivers, new and old, had a lot of fun.

The “HUMAN COOKBOOK” out did himself for the 2nd PCA Master Cooking Class at D’Agostino’s Trattoria.  Chef Dan was joined by Gaudin Owner and accomplished Sous Chef Gary Ackerman.  Chef Dan  prepared a scrumptious Chicken Picatta dish accompanied by a Premier choice of wine, crisp Caesar salad and house-made Cannoli  Gary, complete with stylish apron, shared a selection from the cherished Ackerman Family Cookbook, Pasta Bolognese. DELIZIOSO!!!

The full house of Porsche aficionados were especially attentive to Chef Dan’s teaching moment explaining the difference between “traditional” vs “authentic” Italian fare, fresh vs bottled lemon and caper ‘flowers’.

The loud gasps occurred when Chef doused the Chicken Picatta with what looked like a massive amount of Plugra butter. What a hit as the we all couldn’t get enough of the scallopini style chicken, cremini mushrooms, fresh lemon, capers and wine with all that BUTTAH!

We look forward to a 3rd in ’23!

The World of Porsche Brunches Las Vegas Style

On Sunday September 9 LVR met for another good brunch at Red Rock Country Club. The day started out beautifully with temps in the 70’s, clear and sunny. Upon arriving at Red Rock you were confronted with a blaze of color- Porsches of all hues and models- a truly gorgeous sight.

After chatting, noshing on a really good brunch including someone’s favorite cinnamon rolls, and chatting some more, President Reid Smith presented a review of upcoming events for the club including a day drive, a cocktail-optional social, special event with presentation by a noted race driver and other events (as covered in detail on our website www.lasvegasporscheclub.com and in our newsletter Desert Drives).

Michael Dugan introduced our speaker, David Soyk. For those few who don’t know, David is salesman extraordinaire for Gaudin Porsche. He shared his love of Porsches and the considerations you should have in buying an [...]

Registration is now open for our three-day HPDE

By Michael Myers

For our November DE we are moving to the new track at Spring Mountain and for the first time ever hosting a three-day event.   Many of us got a preview of this track with some parade laps at our September event and we’re all excited for this new FIA Level-3 track with fast sweeping corners, quick esses, off-camber turns, lots of elevation change and high-speed straights.

With the new track and paddock layout there will be some changes when it comes to parking, tech lane location and the grid-out procedures – more on that as the event gets closer.

Friday will be an open-track day.   Friday is open to all Red (advanced) and Green (intermediate) [...]
