From the President’s Desk,
Here’s to wishing everyone a nice temperate Spring. This winter has been colder than usual and it seemed like every time it rained, I had to take my Porsche on a pressing errand. Then when it snowed, I really felt like the weather gods were out to get me.
The February 4th drive to Topock was a kick. When we hit the curves on the Historic Route 66 we were able to have some fun as we had NO TRAFFIC ahead of us! I’m sure those of us driving had big grins on our faces. Not so much for our navigators. When we reached Oatman things came to a screeching halt as there was an active shootout on Route 66! After they dragged the bodies off the street and headed back into the saloon, we were able to proceed to Topock 66 Colorado River Bar and Grill for a fantastic lunch.
Some of us rose early on February 18th and drove up to St. George for Porsches and Pastries in a large downtown parking lot. We had 64 Porsches on display! The staff at Farmstead Bakery got a workout while taking our orders for scrumptious pastries and sandwiches. A shout-out to Intermountain Region PCA, Craig and Di Shanklin and crew, for organizing the event and inviting us.
We are planning a Tech Session on ceramic coatings, detailing and paint protection film at Gloss-It Design and Detail Studio on March 11th. I put out an enews blast a few weeks ago and the 30 seats were taken within 24 hours! We need to plan more Tech Sessions! Anyone want to work on the next one?
Join us for the Valley of Fire Day Drive on March 21st. Arizona PCA and Southern Utah PCA members are joining us for the morning drive through Lake Mead Recreational Area and then to the Valley of Fire Nevada State Park. Because of the number of cars, we are asking you to buy NPS passes (if you do not have an annual or lifetime pass). Also, please prepay for the Nevada State Park pass. You can purchase day passes during the sign-up process. See the registration in this issue for details.
Our first HPDE weekend will take place March 18-19th at Spring Mountain Motorsports Raceway in Pahrump. There is quite a lot of interest in this event, so please sign up soon if you are planning to attend.
I was super impressed with Driven by Integrity, the Gaudin Family Story. If you have not seen this video, I have included it in this issue. As one of the few multi-generational family-owned Porsche dealerships left in the country, I found it very moving. The same ideals of the Gaudin family can be found in our privately owned Porsche service and repair shops. If these businesses were not so honest and capable, I personally might not even own a Porsche. A special thanks to all of you that keep our P-cars on the road!
Hope to see you at our events!
