We had an incredible two-night, three-day FUN-RUN on January 16-18th. AZPCA and LVR have been reciprocating short tours for the last three years. In April we hosted 25 AZPCA cars for our Magical Mystery Drive to Mt. Charleston followed by the new Henderson Gaudin Porsche dealership tour and reception in the afternoon.

Craig Shanklin, our LVR Southern Utah Director, took fabulous pictures and is writing a recap Fridays activities and Saturday’s drive.

Part II is a recap of two highlights: Our WineDown, hosted by Sue Olds, an AZPCA member (also my sister) on Saturday afternoon and Sunday’s Cars & Coffee, held at Alpio’s event facility.

WineDown was suggested by Sue as an activity that would give LVR members a chance to visit and share some fine wines and charcuterie. It proved to be a wonderful afternoon lasting into the evening! Special thanks to Sue and her friend Kristen Miesel for planning the open house.

What a way to kick off September. A full week of driving, eating and enjoying incredible scenery. The following is a daily recap of highlights.

Day 1: We officially kicked off our tour on Labor Day, September 1st, with a meetup at Love’s Travel Stop on US-93, north of Las Vegas. We started with four Porsches, picked up two more in Ely, headed north to Twin Falls and on to the Boise area. Most of our tourers decided to start their vacation early, taking two or more days to get to Idaho. We met for a get-acquainted dinner at LandOcean Restaurant in Meridian with 18 people.

Via Brazil Steakhouse in Summerlin was an ideal location for July’s Mix & Mingle. Great food and conversations were had as we enjoyed the evening together. New members, Dick and Joan McGee, shared stories of their tour of over 7000 miles in their Boxster. They had just returned and filled us in on the adventure, which included some famous roads with incredible scenery. Stay tuned for a feature in next month’s Desert Drives. Table talk included everything from cars to guns to real estate. It is always enjoyable to learn more about our LVR members.

Join us for a six-day, five-night tour of beautiful IDAHO

Beat the heat, hop in your Porsche and head to cool Idaho. If you have never been to the vistas overlooking the Snake River winding through Hells Canyon or driven Highway 12 along the scenic Clearwater River, now is your chance. A road sign that warns you of curves for the next 99 miles will put a smile on your face.

Choose your own accommodations and restaurants. Once the signup is completed and we get a head count, we will coordinate some group meals.

Our four-day tour in May explored three of Nevada’s storied highways.

DAY 1 – Great Basin Highway: Our meetup location was originally set for the Petro Travel Center at the Speedway. After discovering that was the last morning of the EDC Festival and there would be 185,000 blurry-eyed concert goers trying to escape, we wisely switched to another location. Good move! Lunch in Caliente at the Knotty Pine Restaurant, and on to Ely. Absolutely gorgeous snowy mountains made this leg of the trip picturesque. Dinner at JT’s Steakhouse was mouth-watering with grass-fed beef from the owner’s own ranch.

Day 2 – Loneliest Highway in America: In 1986, Life Magazine labeled HWY 50 the “Loneliest Highway in America” and described it as a road with nothing to see. A rep from AAA stated “there are no points of interest. We don’t recommend it, unless they’re confident of their survival skills” We beg to [...]

April 12th was a special day for our Las Vegas Region. We made history by having a record turnout of 55 cars participating in a drive! It all started when Frank Grimmelmann from AZPCA let me know that they were planning a Fun Run weekend and wondered if we could organize a drive. They had 19 cars on the way and we supplied the rest! The Mt. Charleston area is beautiful this time of year and we were fortunate to have great weather and roads.

What a day we had at the Porsche Sprint Challenge held at Spring Mountain Motorsports Raceway in March. Over 30 LVR members enjoyed viewing Qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday with perfect weather. The tailgate lunch hit the spot, with sandwiches and much more!

Hi S. Utah Las Vegas Region PCA Members,

We have decided to add a new Meetup location for the Nevada Highway Tour for S. Utah members. The meetup location will be in Caliente NV, at the Knotty Pine restaurant, where we will plan lunch on May 19th. This will save you from driving to Las Vegas that morning.
