FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK – June 2023

May has proven to be a busy month for our club with numerous activities. We started with a false alarm monthly Brunch! My apologies for the date mix-up. Mike Dugan and I stood at the RRCC roundabout to inform each member that did not get the last-minute email. No members read us the “riot act”, which we would have deserved. A big thank-you for your understanding.

We had perfect weather for our annual Club Picnic Honoring New Members at Mountain Crest Park on May 13th. Besides the tasty BBQ catered by Road Kill Grill, our Board members and Zone 8 Rep, Lori DeCristo, refreshed us on the many facets of our club. Also, on May 20th, many of our members had a very interesting tour of Atomic Motors, in Henderson. We had a very interesting presentation about digital license plates at our May 21st Brunch. It was quite informative and a little sobering to learn about where high-tech is taking us!  At the end of May we had two events over the Memorial Day weekend, but because my Desert Drives deadline is due to our publisher prior to these events, I will fill you in on the details later. Our three-day High Performance Driver’s Education Track Experience was held at Spring Mountain Motorsports Raceway, May 26-28. Also, our club members were invited to join Intermountain Region PCA for a quick overnight tour from St. George to Kanab, Utah.

Looking ahead to the summer months, the club traditionally has not scheduled tons of activities. Besides our monthly brunch we hope to offer a day-drive or two. We have 17 cars attending the PCA Parade in Palm Springs June 18-26th. Dana and I are looking forward to seeing the many LVR members and participating in the numerous activities.

We are planning two tours. Drive Meister Gary Lea will lead The Southern Coastal California and Museum Tour which will take place August 10-13th. The Peterson Museum currently has an over-the-top Porsche exhibit. The tour will continue up the Coastal HWY 1 to Cambria. Also, our September 5-8th, Yosemite High Sierra Tour promises to be spectacular with some winding roads and great scenery. A good chance to beat the Las Vegas heat! Check out the details and registration for each tour below.
