From the President’s Desk,
Our active schedule for our club offers many opportunities for all of our members. As you know, we have had events almost every week in the last two months. It is encouraging to see all the new faces as members decide to take advantage of getting together for driving and social activities.
Our Annual Member Picnic Honoring our new members was incredible. We had what must have been a record 89 attendees at the picnic. It was a hot day, but it didn’t affect the comradery and the excellent BBQ. A shout-out to all of our leadership team that made it all happen. When our crew arrived that morning, every table was completely covered with bird poop. Luckily, we brought buckets of soapy water and stiff brushes to get it all cleaned up.
Our third and last High Performance Drivers Education track weekend of the year took place at the end of September. The club appreciates our DE leadership team and volunteers for all of the countless hours spent to make these events happen. Michael Myers, our DE Coordinator, is stepping down. He has been an awesome leader for the last number of years and will be sorely missed. If any of you want to help with the DE leadership team for next year, please let us know.
Two events that are taking place after this issue of Desert Drives goes to press will be exciting. We will recap them for you in the December issue.
- November 2nd – Cars, Coffee and Cancer will have taken place at the Intermountain Cancer Center in St. George, Utah. Congratulations to Craig Shanklin and St. George helpers for planning this event!
- November 3rd – F 1/10th Autonomous car race following our monthly LVR Brunch at Red Rock Country Club. We had a $6000 dollar goal to build a race track for the UNLV School of Engineering and School of Engineering. They will be able to use the track at UNLV and elsewhere to develop autonomous car skills.
Mark your calendars: LVRPCA Winter Gala – January 19th. More info and registration to come!
Have a great Thanksgiving!
