- Comments Off on September HPDE Recap!
Brad Cameron
Porsche Club of America Las Vegas Region sanctioned a High-Performance Drivers Education (HPDE) weekend at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada, on September 6 and 7, 2025. Held in near perfect mid-90s weather, the event attracted a solid turnout from such places as Dallas, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Utah, Southern California, and of course our locals. Our reach for drivers is expanding with each event thanks to the efforts of the HPDE volunteers.
Over 90 drivers, including eight beginners, had the opportunity to practice their skills in the art of performance driving. The club provided twelve instructors, led by Roger Garrell (covering as Chief Driving Instructor while Brian Schmidt was on an exciting Safari in Africa, driving Porsches of course!) Roger and the team of volunteer instructors did a magnificent job guiding the student drivers from the skid pad to the track as well as orienting experienced drivers with the Spring Mountain Charleston [...]

PCA Celebrates Their 70th Anniversary
By: Jordan Godorov
The Porsche Club of America will celebrate their 70th Anniversary on September 13, 2025. Linda Goodman, PCA’s historian, gave a great webinar a few months back on the history of the club and how it got started. If you want to access the webinar in its entirety, please log in to your PCA member account on the national website and look for RegionFocus webinars. The webinar she gave is RegionFocus #78.
In today’s world, you can go to your local, authorized Porsche dealer and get world-renowned service for your ride. There are also a multitude of independent Porsche and European auto repair shops ready and willing to help you with service on vehicle, as well. Back in the 1950’s, service and [...]

7081-mile Road Trip with our Boxster 986
Ever since riding in the backseat, yes, the backseat of a 1970 Porsche 911 E Targa at age 16, I have been a 911 guy. Even when I couldn’t afford a 911, I bought 914s and dreamed. I have had “affairs” with other car brands from time to time but have always come back. It was during one of those non-Porsche times in my life – while owning a C7 Corvette – that I started dreaming of a cross-country road trip. A big road trip, one that would encompass at least 6000 miles. We would head toward Washington D.C. via a southern route based loosely on interstate 40, spend lots of time on good sports car roads in the Appalachians, and hit the Atlantic near Washington D.C. where my son Ben and his family live. After a visit of a few days, we would head west in a northerly arc, through Ohio, Illinois, on through South Dakota, and stop [...]

Why Does That Volkswagen Say “Porsche” On It? Some History Behind Porsche Renndienst Vehicles.
By: Jordan Godorov
Have you ever been to a car event that featured a Volkswagen with “Porsche” lettering on it? What’s that all about?
According to Richard Lindhorst, writing for Effersport Online – “In 1951, Porsche took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time. Motorsport has been a central part of the Zuffenhausen company’s DNA ever since this entry of two Porsche 356/4 SL Coupés. From the mid-1950s onwards, the so-called “Renndienst”, which means racing service, was also always there [...]

Unleashing Adventure, Camaraderie, and Automotive Excellence on the Open Road
By Craig Shanklin
There’s something thrilling about sliding into the driver’s seat of your Porsche, feeling the pulse of its engine through the steering wheel, and pointing its nose toward new horizons. For many Porsche owners, this might be a local drive or attending a nearby Cars and Coffee. We all know our car is more than just a means of transportation—it’s a symbol of refined engineering, performance, and a close-knit community. However, taking your Porsche out for an extended road trip…hundreds of miles… is something very different. It isn’t merely about getting from A to B; it’s about experiencing a journey…an adventure… savoring each curve of the road, and embracing the camaraderie that comes with being a part of a passionate automotive family.

- Comments Off on Meet the Member: A call for Members to Share their Porsche Journey! – Marnie Cameron
If you’ve read the Desert Drive newsletter over the last several years, a mainstay article has been the Meet the Member section. This section was created so that ALL members had an opportunity to introduce themselves to club members and share their Porsche Journey.
Every Porsche has a story—and so does every Porsche owner. Whether it was the thrill of seeing your first Porsche as a kid, your first 911 drive, the joy of restoring a classic, or the adventure of road-tripping in your Cayenne, we want to hear your Porsche journey.
Our club is more than a collection of incredible machines, it’s a community built on passion, experience, and the love of driving. That’s why we’re inviting members to submit short articles about their personal Porsche story. How did you fall in love with the brand? What model stole your heart? What model do you currently have? Any modifications? What memories have you made [...]

Have an Emergency On The Road? What’s in Your “Go Bag”?
By: Jordan Godorov
I have been a licensed driver for over 30 years. In that time, I have had my share of emergencies on the road. Whether it was running out of gas, getting a flat tire, having a mechanical breakdown, or getting stuck in inclement weather, I was always prepared for the situation.
Here is a list of what I currently have in my “go-bag” for any emergency situation I may encounter in my Porsche:
- Portable jump starter/power station
- Battery operated air compressor (In addition to the OEM Porsche on-board pump)
- Tire plug kit
- Spare bottle of tire sealant (In addition to the OEM Porsche Sealant)
- Leatherman tool
- Emergency triangle
- Flashlight
- Cell phone charging cord [...]
