Porsche Almost Became Part of BMW?

By: Jordan Godorov

As a member of the Porsche Club of America, we are lucky to receive a newsletter regularly from the national office. Sometimes those newsletters highlight Porsche history. I also happen to belong to the BMW Car Club of America. Some months back, I received a notice from the BMWCCA in a newsletter that a 3 book set of BMW “Behind the Scenes” was available for purchase by the general membership. One of the clips from the set was a story about how BMW once had a chance to buy Porsche. I thought that this was fascinating and got me thinking about how different Porsche would be if that happened. Here is the story:

When BMW Went To Buy Porsche – [...]

On Tuesday, October 14th, a group of us from the board arrived at The Just One Project at 7:30 a.m. at 1401 N. Decatur Blvd. Bright-eyed and eager to help distribute food to those in need, we set out to make a difference.

We had been aligned with this group since the beginning of the year and had mentioned them in these pages a few times. They are truly remarkable in their efforts to feed those in need. In addition to food distribution, they also offer housing assistance, job training, and placement assistance. Their dedication is evident in the fact that they distribute over 6 MILLION pounds of food annually to the community.

Scissors and Scotch

Our group arrived between 3:30 and 4:30. The center had blocked off the streets, and we found our way to Scissors and Scotch. We backed in and opened the trunks.

By the time we started (5:30), we had lined up seven Carreras and were ready to hand out candy.

We all thought we had too much candy and would be taking it home. We provided between 150 and 200 pounds of sugary delights in total. Little did we know that in 2024, they had over 4,000 people and expected the same [...]

Who Doesn’t Love Car Marketing Materials?

By: Jordan Godorov

I am a huge fan of automobile history. I love seeing vehicles from the past in, not only true form, but also in paper form. As a kid, I loved collecting brochures on all types of vehicles. I would bring them home and study them for hours. Those days truly made me into a car fanatic.

With the Internet bringing all sorts of information to the world, some evil geniuses have compiled a free online database accessible to anyone with a web-surfing device. It’s called Auto Catalog Archive (www.autocatalogarchive.com). From the ACA Website –

“This website – it is a journey through the history of cars. An extensive archive of brochures from all over [...]

Porsche Club of America Las Vegas Region sanctioned a High-Performance Drivers Education (HPDE) weekend at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada, on September 6 and 7, 2025. Held in near perfect mid-90s weather, the event attracted a solid turnout from such places as Dallas, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Utah, Southern California, and of course our locals. Our reach for drivers is expanding with each event thanks to the efforts of the HPDE volunteers.

Over 90 drivers, including eight beginners, had the opportunity to practice their skills in the art of performance driving. The club provided twelve instructors, led by Roger Garrell (covering as Chief Driving Instructor while Brian Schmidt was on an exciting Safari in Africa, driving Porsches of course!) Roger and the team of volunteer instructors did a magnificent job guiding the student drivers from the skid pad to the track as well as orienting experienced drivers with the Spring Mountain Charleston [...]

By: Jordan Godorov

The Porsche Club of America will celebrate their 70th Anniversary on September 13, 2025. Linda Goodman, PCA’s historian, gave a great webinar a few months back on the history of the club and how it got started. If you want to access the webinar in its entirety, please log in to your PCA member account on the national website and look for RegionFocus webinars. The webinar she gave is RegionFocus #78.

In today’s world, you can go to your local, authorized Porsche dealer and get world-renowned service for your ride. There are also a multitude of independent Porsche and European auto repair shops ready and willing to help you with service on vehicle, as well. Back in the 1950’s, service and [...]
