The third day will take us to Tonopah, NV for a dinner in the Jack Demsey room at the Mizpah Hotel.  Because it seems everyone is hitting the roads these days, hotels in the area of National Parks book up quickly. As I compiled the list of LVR members signed up to attend the 2023 PCA Parade I was surprised that there were a number of them who I had never met! Being president of the region, I felt we needed to take action. First Lady, Dana and I looked at the Parade schedule and noticed an evening that had no activities or awards banquets planned. Realizing that many would be dining off-site and would be returning later, we began planning for WINEDOWN. The Board approved expenditures and so we were able to purchase wine and bites for that day. One of our biggest issues was finding a location without having to rent a room. As it turned out, our 2nd story room had a large balcony that easily accommodated our party. We entertained 27 of the 38 members of our region that attended the Parade. Although it was quite windy for starters, [...]

The Factory one-off special request Classic Club Coupe No. 001/001 was auctioned last month. This incredible car was on display for PCA Parade attendees in Palm Springs. Guess who made an impromptu appearance? The highest bidder who arrived to drive his new Porsche home. None other than Porschephile Jerry Seinfeld! It has been reported the successful bid was over 1.3 million!

LVR members Mark and Trudy Wilson happened to be in the right place at the right time and snapped the two photos.

GAUDIN PORSCHE CELEBRATION

By Reid Smith

Gaudin Porsche held a 75th Porsche birthday celebration on June 10th. With our Porsche cars filling the parking lot and the challenges with getting inventory, I’m sure the sales team was fantasizing about selling every one of them! A special thanks to Julie Cane and the Gaudin team for hosting a great party!

Note the picture of Salomon Braun glued to his cell phone watching the closing bids of his beloved GT4 on Bring a Trailer exceed his expectations.

AT NATIONAL CONCOURS

By Dave Sunderhaft

Our ‘92 968 Cabriolet was awarded 2nd place in Class at the National Porsche Parade Concours.  The Class consisted of 924s, 968s, 944s and 968s judged for Preservation. The Preservation Classes at Concours are judged based on originality, use, and presentation. Parade concours also has classes for Restoration and Presentation. Unlike those classes where judging is done on a demerit point system, Preservation is judged more subjectively comparing totality of one car’s originality, use, and preparation against the others in the class.

Our 968 fell a bit short in originality in that it lacked the original radio and the locking lug nuts.

As to Use, the winner was a 924. It was an original family-owned car from new that included pictures of the presenter detailing the car when he was 7 years old. While we have owned our car for 9 years and have driven it over 20,000 miles, [...]

Our region to the north, IRPCA, planned a wonderful Memorial Day weekend which included a dinner, drive and wine tasting. And they invited our region. What could be better?

On Saturday evening we had an excellent dinner at Ovation restaurant in St. George, prepared by IRPCA member Jeremy Lawrence, who is the executive chef. Sunday, we met up and headed on a non-interstate route, which took us through Colorado City, and Hilldale UT. Then we took a road less traveled with beautiful scenery skirting the Coral Pink Sand Dunes area. Lunch in Kanab included a wonderful buffet in a rustic atmosphere.

On the way back to St. George we couldn’t resist stopping at the Water Canyon Winery. Owners Shane and Kalie Tooke rolled out the red carpet (and wine) for us. They have developed an excellent product. Their challenge is to produce enough wine for the high demand.

A special thanks to [...]
