FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK – AUGUST 2022

From the President’s Desk,

I hope everyone is enjoying our Las Vegas “dry heat”. Of course, those of you who are reading this from cooler temperatures are chuckling! We are looking forward to YOUR migration back to Las Vegas.

It gives me great sadness to report that two of our beloved members, Donald Goldberg and Carol “Cookie” Scanlon-Goldberg, died in a tragic plane crash at the North Las Vegas Airport. Barbara Barron, our VP and I had a nice visit with them at July’s brunch. They were so excited to fly their Piper to Couer d”Alene Idaho that week.  Both were experienced pilots and flew extensively. I asked Cookie if she and Donald would be interested in being featured in the September issue of Desert Drives “Meet the Members”. She was excited about sharing some photos of her own plane and her matching Porsche. They were such a lovely couple and will be sorely missed.

We have a need for a Webmaster! Earlier this year we were very fortunate to have our website built by LVR member Alex Harbison. Now we need a qualified webmaster to provide maintenance. It would involve a minimal time commitment during the year. We would prefer a club member but if you know of someone outside the club, please let us know.

We have a need for a Social Media organizer! This person would receive information from event organizers and post on our Facebook page and other avenues to promote our club’s activities.

We have a need for members to help plan Tours! If you have a good idea for a multi-night tour let us know. We have all the resources to help you organize your event. Many of our overnight tours are “bare bones” events, meaning we have suggested lodging and restaurants and let each party make their own travel arrangements. Our club is entirely fueled by volunteers which means we need club members to plan activities.

Please contact me at reidhorn@yahoo.com for more information.

Take a look at our Google Calendar for upcoming events!
