HAPPY TIMES AT THE HOFBRAUHAUS!

By Reid Smith

Beer and brats can do wonders to lift your spirits. We celebrated Ocktoberfest with our Mix and Mingle at the Hofbrauhaus of Las Vegas. If you have never been there, you are missing out on quite an experience. A wide range of Bavarian specialties with German beer to wash it down. The oompah band was a nice touch complete with an alphorn introduction. Pictures tell a thousand words (maybe a few too many)!

From the President’s Desk,

Our active schedule for our club offers many opportunities for all of our members. As you know, we have had events almost every week in the last two months. It is encouraging to see all the new faces as members decide to take advantage of getting together for driving and social activities.

Our Annual Member Picnic Honoring our new members was incredible. We had what must have been a record 89 attendees at the picnic. It was a hot day, but it didn’t affect the comradery and the excellent BBQ. A shout-out to all of our leadership team that made it all happen. When our crew arrived that morning, every table was completely covered with bird poop. Luckily, we brought buckets of soapy water and stiff brushes to get it all cleaned up.

Our third and last High Performance Drivers Education track weekend of the year took place at the end [...]

From the Archives #28, October 2024

A couple of months ago, I described in this column the Las Vegas Region’s entry into the computer world with the purchase of a computer and a printer in April of 1995. The purchase was described as being primarily for the purpose of creating the monthly LVR Newsletter (“Sandscript”) and keeping track of the ever-expanding membership and mailing list.

When I transferred to the Las Vegas Region from the Santa Barbara crowd in early 2012, there wasn’t a printed newsletter. In fact, there wasn’t much of a newsletter at all, just an occasional “Blast,” which was an e-mailed notice to the members, mostly having to do with the Spring Mountain DEs.

So what happened? We had a computer. Why wasn’t there a published and mailed out Newsletter?

To investigate, I looked through the boxes of the old Sandscripts, only to discover that the last published Las Vegas Region Newsletter [...]

By Mark and Paula Kramer

In 2005 I purchased my first Porsche from an independent Porsche mechanic in Los Gatos CA. where I was working; his personal ride, a 1983 rust colored 911SC Targa. My next-door neighbor who couldn’t stand the fact that I got this beautiful Porsche also bought a 1983 blue 911SC Targa a week later. We discovered both cars were made only a month apart. Mine needed hardly any work; his on the other hand, needed a new clutch which we replaced one weekend in his garage. You might know my neighbor from back then, he is Brad Cameron, also a member of our club. Unfortunately, I had to sell mine a few years later to help with my daughter’s nursing school tuition. Brad still has his.

Thanks to beyond who showed up for our Gunlock Lake picnic run! We had two groups of cars and enjoyed a beautiful scenic drive through Lake Mead National Park and then up Hwy 91 through some more gorgeous countryside. the day was perfect with a bit of a breeze at the lake it was a really stunning park and the perfect place for our picnic lunch. Special thanks to Jeff Kollin for bringing donuts. (Why do I think that might have been Laura’s idea?😉😂)

AutoFest was an incredible event this year held on the fairways of Red Rock Golf Course. What a selection of unique autos to gaze upon. Eye Candy! Although the car show is open to all marques, 86 Porsches were on display. Our Porsche corral drew hundreds of car enthusiasts and spectators.

This year’s event experienced a near perfect day of warm but not Vegas-hot temperatures. Gary Lea did a fabulous job of organizing the Porsche corral which included a judged show & shine complete with trophies. Gary, thanks for all you do for our club! A big thank you goes out to Gaudin Porsche of [...]
