From the President’s Desk,

September was an incredibly event-packed month! Brian Schmidt, our Chief Driving Instructor, held a very informative Tech Session on Car Control at our monthly Brunch. From what I have heard, practically everyone learned something new at this excellent presentation.

The Gunlock, Utah Drive and Picnic took place on a hot morning when we met at Lake Mead. When we arrived at the picnic gazebo at Gunlock State Park, a nice breeze was coming off the lake and it was quite enjoyable.  A group of our friends from Southern Utah joined us for some good comradery. A shoutout to Gary Lea, who came up with the plan and organized the drive. He said we will do it again!

September 21st marked the annual Las Vegas AutoFest, held on the fairways of scenic Red Rock Golf Course. Although this festival includes all marques, Porsche cars dominated with 86 awesome Porsches on display! See [...]

From the Archives #27, September 2024

This month we’ll continue our look at the Region’s year 1995, the 21st anniversary of our Region.

In the July 1995 issue of Sandscript there was a telling article about the President’s new Dodge van. Carl bought it in his first-ever shopping trip for a NEW car. He said new car shopping was eye-opening, in that he had a lot of questions, but the dealer salesman had only answers to questions he didn’t really ask. Such as, since he intended to use the van to tow his race car, he asked: “Does it have a towing option?” And the salesman replied: “It comes in eight beautiful standard colors and three more at extra cost.” Oh….. to go back to the 20th century car shopping adventures.

But I digress. The comment that caught my attention was that, during his first towing trip with his new 1995 Dodge V-8 powered van, [...]

In 2014, I finally decided on a 987 Boxster RS60 Spyder (6 speed manual) as my 1st Porsche.  I have had it to countless HPDE events, and it’s been an absolutely wonderful car, and I still have it! Then I bought a 997 C2S convertible (6 speed manual) and a 986 Boxster (5 speed manual) for my wife Linzy.  She’s had her Boxster at an HPDE event as well.

We sold the 911 & Linzy’s Boxster to make room for an Audi R8 (6 speed manual), but I don’t think I’ll ever sell the RS60.  It is so much fun, 100% reliable, and with a frunk AND trunk it actually carries a lot of groceries! I changed to a later style Boxster S wheel, and I modified the sport exhaust, so [...]
