From the President’s Desk,

We are certainly in the dog days of summer. Even the dogs don’t want to leave the house! Dana and I had a nice Colorado trip in our travel trailer. While Las Vegas was setting record high temps, we were enjoying a cooler time visiting Mesa Verde NP, the Great Sand Dunes NP area and Black Canyon NP, all above 6000 feet. In July we are planning to head to California and assist the Santa Barbara Region PCA celebrate their 60th Anniversary.

As many Porsche Club regions in the northern states have a less active winter season, we tend to offer less activities this time of year. We had our planning session for Fall activities and many dates have been added to the calendar. We will populate it as we firm up plans.

In addition to our regular monthly brunches and Mix & Mingle get-togethers you can look forward to AutoFest, [...]

SPRING PICNIC HONORING NEW MEMBERS

OCTOBER 5, 2024

MOUNTAIN CREST PARK, PAVILION B

SAVE THE DATE!

From the Archives #25, June 2024

Last month the LV Region celebrated its 50th anniversary, and began looking forward to the next 50 years. Since this column is supposed to recount the history of the Region, I thought we might look back to the time the Region celebrated its 25th anniversary and began looking toward its second 25 years.

That would be 1995.

Bill Clinton was President of the US, and an equally audacious character was President (again) of the LVR. That would be Carl Young. If you’ve read this column previously, you’ll know what I mean. Suffice it to say that Carl was Region President in 1975, and he founded Carl’s Place.

During the first few months of 1995, several members praised the new 993, while at the same time complaining about all the “bells and whistles” that they didn’t understand (They should try a 2024 Cayenne.)

The Las Vegans started the year with [...]

Phil’s first Porsche was a 1964 901, which he thought was the same as a 356. He had previously driven and fallen head over heels for a 1961 356 coupe, which, luckily, a Porsche-knowledgeable friend pointed out, before he bought it, was totally rusted out below the door handles. This was in Baltimore for heaven’s sake. They use salt on the roads in wintertime.

Phil then came across the 901, in 1966, and he bought it, not knowing the difference between a 356 and a 911. He soon found [...]

Last month we had a successful drive to many points of interest in Southern Utah. On Day One we departed at the Lake Mead NP entrance and had an enjoyable drive on the North Shore Road. After a rest stop in Mesquite, we took Hwy 91 which is the old highway toward St. George. Taking the Gunlock Road, we arrived at Vejo for lunch and pie! Then we swung to the west on SR 18 and eventually arrived at Cedar City. This means we only were on Interstate 15 for about 15 miles! We had a superb dinner at Chef Alfredo’s Italian Restaurant.

On Day 2 we headed uphill to Brianhead and Cedar Breaks. After being stuck behind a slow-poke for the 10-mile uphill climb, we were turned loose [...]

From the President’s Desk,

Well, it has been an incredible 50th Anniversary year so far! It began in January with our Winter Gala where we pulled out all the stops. Our guest speaker was none other than the Face of PCA, Executive Director Vu Nguyen. Then on our actual club’s 50th Birthday, we held the largest LVR member event in history, with over 250 members registered for our EXTRAVAGANZA. I have never seen such a display of Porsches, not to mention the live music, magical acts and Las Vegas showgirls. What a memorable celebration for the club! A shout out to our LVR Board, Committee, and volunteers. And a heartfelt thank you to Gary Ackerman, Paul Jarrett, and all of the members of the Gaudin Porsche team that helped make it happen. You are the best!

LVR members are welcome to participate in our planning session for possible future events and activities. Bring your ideas [...]

We have planned a drive for May that is a three-day, two-night event starting May 13th and ending on May 15th.

Once through the gate we take the first left which is State Route 167north all the way to Logandale and the junction of Interstate15. We will travel north on I15 north to Exit 112 Riverdale/Bunkerville just outside [...]

SPANISH COOKING AT IT’S BEST!

By Reid Smith

If you have not eaten at Tres Cazuelas yet, you need to! What a great experience in Iberian Peninsula cuisine. Club members started with a wine tasting and then proceeded to the cooking presentation. Chef Angelo Reyes took us through the steps of preparing paella. Originally, this dish from the 1800’s combined your weekly leftovers, but now it is quite a delicacy. The right ingredients and careful preparation is the key to a tasty dinner. Rather than leftovers, our paella included rice, chicken, pork belly, jumbo shrimp, mussels and clams seasoned just right. Yum!

1957 Porsche 356 Speedster

By Andrea Bell

Originally imported by Hoffman Motorcars in New York, the vehicle was special ordered from the factory with Black (R 701 Schwarz) exterior / Red interior and is 1:141 Speedsters special ordered in Black of 4,145 built (1:40 special ordered in Black of the 590 Speedsters built in 1957). It is a fully numbers-matching vehicle with original interior/components and original paint underneath a single overspray …and she drives like a dream!
