1957 Porsche 356 Speedster

By Andrea Bell

Originally imported by Hoffman Motorcars in New York, the vehicle was special ordered from the factory with Black (R 701 Schwarz) exterior / Red interior and is 1:141 Speedsters special ordered in Black of 4,145 built (1:40 special ordered in Black of the 590 Speedsters built in 1957). It is a fully numbers-matching vehicle with original interior/components and original paint underneath a single overspray …and she drives like a dream!

My first Porsche was a very special one; a 1965 911 GP white/Black tex only option chrome wheels and it even had the teak dash radio cover with gold 911 on it.  This was in 1970 and it only had 2K miles with the threshold plastic on it. I kept it for about 8 years and sold it with less than 10K miles on it — hope it’s still the pristine car it was!

I’ve owned too many Porsches to remember, perhaps 25-30 who knows. I currently own “only” 2 a ’73 Carrera RS 2.7 lt.wt. & a ’23 911 Turbo S cabriolet wht.mt. & lipstick but just sold a Macan [...]

Hello Porsche Friends!

The 2024 Timeline Registration is officially OPEN.  Our first event in Big Bear last year was a huge success.  It was so big that we needed to expand our booking with the city to accommodate 200+ cars which means our costs have gone up.  We have added a Welcome Party and a Farwell Concert to the roster so we hope you can spend the entire weekend with us on the mountain!

We will SELL OUT.  Sign up and secure you spot soon!

The LVR Board and 50 th Committee have been working for months on our big Birthday bash. What a time
we had! There were many things to do at the celebration. Listen to the fine vocals of Michael Ross
Nugent, get your picture taken at the step and repeat with Las Vegas Showgirls, view our charter and
other memorabilia of our club’s earlier years, eat Wicked donuts, and view over 150 Porsches! We had
Porsche visitors from Leipzig and Switzerland join us in the celebration. Past Presidents shared
interesting stories about club members during their watch.
If that was not enough, 100 enthusiasts departed at 12:30pm for a trip up to Mt. Charleston. We were
greeted with snow along the roadway and delicious Geo’s Tacos. The drive topped off a great day!

From the President’s Desk,

Due to deadlines, I am writing to you two days after our big 50th Extravaganza blowout. Our Board and volunteers put in months of planning for this once in a lifetime event and I am so proud of the outcome.

We had over 250 members sign up for the Extravaganza and we also hit our limit of 100 for the Mt. Charleston Drive. We had perfect weather for the morning and the display of Porsches was something to behold. I want to not only thank our dedicated volunteers, but to personally thank Gary Ackerman, Paul Jarrett and their professional crew at Gaudin Porsche for offering the venue and assisting with the event. We are lucky to have what has become an increasingly rare family-owned dealership that truly cares about us local Porsche enthusiasts and considers us as part of the family!

We are planning a three-day, two-night tour to Southern Utah, [...]

From the Archives #24, April 2024

Since this issue of Desert Drives commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Las Vegas Region, we thought we’d bring out some history of PCA and the LVR.

PCA National (often referred to as ‘PCAN’) itself was founded in July 1955 by Bill Scholar of Alexandria, Virginia. The first PANORAMA came out in December 1955, and the first “Region” was the Potomac Region, founded in 1956. To join PCA there was an Initiation Fee of $5.00 and annual dues also of $5.00.

Before the Las Vegas Region was founded, in 1973, if you were a Las Vegan who owned a Porsche and tried to contact other Porsche owners or members of PCA, you were pretty much out of luck. The closest Region was Riverside and there were actually a few Las Vegas Porsche owners who were members there.

Eventually enough Las Vegas locals met other Porsche-owning locals and managed to [...]

TRY IT!!!  YOU WILL LIKE IT!!!

Have you ever wondered what you and your Porsche are capable of? Take a look at this article from Panorama Magazine about High Performance Driver Education.  It gives a newcomer’s perspective of these informative events and what to expect.  The PCA members who organize these events really put you at ease with a well-developed curriculum and focus on safety.  Guaranteed to make you a better street driver.

BE CAREFUL, THIS CAN BE ADDICTIVE!

2024 Porsche 911 Carrera T

This is the latest addition to our Porsche family. A rare opportunity came up for us to get a new 911 and we took it. It is a 2024 Porsche 911 Carrera T. We ordered the car in July 2023 and received delivery the first week of December 2023. The photos of the car are on it’s first out of town Porsche run to Phoenix over the weekend of January 13th and 14th.

This is our first new 911, which we were able to order exactly as we wanted. The car has a 7-speed manual transmission and was ordered with very few options, to keep it as pure of a driving experience as possible. Some notable options selected were an extended range fuel tank, rear axle steering, ventilated seats, adaptive sport seats, the Bose stereo system, and surround view.

This is the 6th Porsche that we have purchased through Gaudin [...]

My first Porsche was a 2020 Cayenne with Carrera White paint and blue/chalk interior. I have owned three Porsches to date: a base Cayenne, Cayenne Coupe, and now my 718 GTS 4.0. My latest car, the 718 GTS 4.0, is painted in Shark Blue with Black/Chalk interior and Shark Blue seat belts. My favorite thing about owning this car is the naturally aspirated flat six engine.

Initially, I intended to buy a BMW M5 Competition, but after certain factors took place at the dealership, I went to the Porsche dealership in Las Vegas, where I was immediately treated like family. Over the years of buying Porsches from Gaudin Porsche, the service continues to amaze me. I currently am a pilot for American Airlines with a degree in Aeronautical Science, traveling the world flying [...]
