A year ago, I purchased my first Porsche; a 2022 992 Carrera so I’m a new member to PCA having joined here in Las Vegas. I’ve been a BMW enthusiasts the last 20 years and all it took was a test drive in one of my good friend’s 911 and I was hooked. The entire feel, handling and acceleration of the car was exhilarating, and I knew immediately it was time for a change. I was also impressed with the sound from the exhaust and the pronunciation of the decibel changes with each change. I love the color which is chalk. Other features are the full moon/sunroof, Porsche logoed headrest in the seats, upgraded gas cap, premium sound system. I’ve made a few simple modifications; suspension lowering including wheel spacers to accentuate the bold wheelbase features as well as added wind deflectors to both driver and passenger side windows to reduce wind noise.

It was a chilly morning as we assembled at Railroad Pass in anticipation for our drive to Topock AZ. A sizable group divided into two groups of 12 cars lined up and were ready to go. The drive to Kingman, our first stop, was fairly boring except for spend most of the time dodging sizeable pot-holes. Arizona should pave their roads! When we turned on to Route 66 the drive got interesting, especially when we hit the twisties. Porsches are built for tight turns on narrow roads and we made the most of it. We were temporarily delayed by an active shooting in the old west town of Oatman. After they cleared the carnage, we were able to proceed through town. I did see a sign that the [...]

Topock is an Arizonan town that most have never heard of, or let alone, visited. Topock 66 BBQ and Grill was a very interesting destination for our day drive in February. The historic mountain Route 66 Highway through Oatman brought smiles to Porschephile’s faces. [...]

From the Archives #22, February 2024

After a month of joblessness, here we go again back into the LVR’s past. BTW, the Prez let me go last month (actually, he fired me) in an attempt to reduce Newsletter costs as a result of some production problem with the Region’s newsletter. To get me back he had to TRIPLE my salary.

And I bet you thought this was a volunteer job!

So let’s go back again, this time we’ll look at the year 1980. (IMHO the nadir of the dullest dozen years (1974-1986) in the automotive world, what with emission regulations, crash safety requirements, MPG requirements, digital computers still on the horizon, et al.)

The Region announced the formation of a new car club in Las Vegas in January 1980… the SNRR, or Southern Nevada Road Racers. The SNRR’s first event was a “Club Race,” or a “Drivers’ School” according to two consecutive sentences in SNRR’s [...]

For those who missed the Tri-State Rally with our friends in Phoenix, it was a huge success with a great turnout. Others will fill you in on the drive, the Cars and Coffee and the overall event in their reports. For me without a doubt the highlight was the secret private car collection we saw. Last year we were treated to another fabulous secret collection and as impressive as it is this one was bit a smaller but it really spoke to my heart.

Wow, did we make the right decision! Although we’ve participated in many Club events we have not, until now, participated in a multi-day trip/drive. Having decided to register for this 3-club event we were anxious, excited and eager to make the drive to Phoenix and join the Phoenix and Utah clubs for the weekend.

A big highlight for us was the planned 75-mile Sonoran Drive on Saturday morning. After an early start with the Cars and Coffee event, the group was split into 3 groups (we had over 60 cars participating) we headed out for what would be an incredible drive with awe inspiring views [...]
