From the Archives #14, April 2023
We’ve chosen this month to look through 1984, at least the first half of that year, a time when the Las Vegas Region was ten years old. The most striking thing to us was the sheer number of major events/activities that the rather small (about 100 members) LVR managed to put on the in first half of 1984.
In mid-February 1984, the LVR folks put together what was called the “West Coast Weekend.” This was a 3-activity event, not counting the eating, drinking, and gambling that was very favorably reported on. The venue was at Laughlin (hence the gambling); the activities were a slalom, a rally, and a tech quiz. The number of workers was huge, and all were thanked individually in the subsequent issue of Sandscript.
In mid-March there was the “Holtville Weekender.” The three activities at this one were an autocross, a rally, and a slalom. Again, [...]

From the President’s Desk,
It is an understatement to say that March was a busy month. I am writing this a day after our Valley of Fire Drive with members from three PCA regions: Arizona, Intermountain and Las Vegas. I was contacted by the Arizona region in December and we put together an eventful two days culminating with a drive to the Valley of Fire State Park. We had 61 cars signed up for the event but only about half participated, probably due to the rainy forecast. Or it was because there was delays for hours on the 215 Beltway due to some major accidents (I was stuck in traffic so can attest to the delay). Anyway, the rain let up and everyone enjoyed the beautiful scenery. A big shout-out to our LVR volunteers who did an exceptional job of organizing the drive while I was “parked” on the 215.
Our first HPDE at Spring [...]

IN ST. GEORGE!
By Reid Smith
Some of us climbed out of bed at 0’Dark Hundred on February 18th to drive St. George for coffee and pastries. We have joined with the Southern Intermountain Region PCA group a number of times over the past year.
We were blessed with cool but sunny conditions that morning. As 64 Porsches arrived, members headed to the Farmstead Bakery and selected from an array of pastries, sandwiches and coffee. A special thanks to Craig Shanklin and his crew for keeping everything organized. And thanks for inviting us!

The February edition of the Cars und Kaffee event at the Good Wolf Lifestyle Store in the Arts District of Las Vegas was a unique experience for car enthusiasts. Not only were there classic Porsche cars on display, but there were also lots of great dogs in attendance. However, the highlight of the event was when Chris Sterle brought everyone free breakfast burritos.
The Cars und Kaffee event is a monthly gathering of classic Porsche cars that’s like a mini Luftgekhult. The February event, which took place on the last Sunday of the month, was a fun-filled day for attendees. Visitors came from all over to admire a variety of vintage Porsche models on display, while enjoying a cup of coffee and mingling with fellow car enthusiasts.
The event was made even better by the presence of many cute and friendly dogs. Visitors couldn’t resist the opportunity to pet and play with the furry friends [...]

What a gorgeous day in February! 21 Porsches explored the Historic Route 66 drive through Oatman with lunch at the Topock 66 Colorado Bar and Grill. As we arrived in Oatman, we witnessed a wild west shootout. After they dragged the bodies off the street we were able to proceed to Topock AZ.
