By Michael Myers, HPDE Chair

Registration is now open for the LVR/PCA’s High Performance Driver Education (HPDE) event at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Pahrump, Nevada. The event will take place on October 7-8th and will feature the long course on the newly designed Charleston Peak Track, which is approximately half a mile longer than the previous “north course”.

New drivers will have the opportunity to participate in a full Driver’s School, while experienced drivers will have access to instructors to help improve their skills. The track map with passing zones is available on the MSReg signup link below for participants to familiarize themselves with the layout of the Charleston Peak full course.

We are also seeking volunteers to help with the Black Flag Station, Tech Line, and Pit-Out Station. If [...]

What a summer! I hope you were able to survive the heat, monsoons and tropical storm. Dana and I were able to get away to visit family and also spend some time in north Idaho and Colorado. We are glad to be back and am heading out today on our Yosemite tour with our LVR group.

Our first Mix & Mingle was a huge success. We had 45 members socializing and having a good time at the Bella Vida. Our next one is planned for September 19th, at the 2-La Neta Cocina and Lounge in downtown Summerlin. A special thanks to Martha and Randy Burba for organizing these fun events. See you there!

I hope that you are beating the heat and staying cool this summer. We had some technical issues with our newsletter/website, and have decided to combine the July and August Desert Drives. Let’s just call it the SUMMER ISSUE!

First Lady Dana and I spent a week in Palm Springs while attending the PCA Porsche Parade in June. When gathering the names of LVR attendees I was amazed at the number of members I had never met before! So, we planned a “Starlight Winedown” for our region members and friends. It was great to see many of the 38 members that attended the Parade, and meet some for the first time. We had a fantastic time. I Love a Parade! See our Parade write-up and pictures in this issue.

Memorial Day weekend was very busy for the club. We ran our three-day High Performance Driver’s Education event at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. The weather cooperated [...]

The first-ever Cars und Kaffee event in San Francisco, hosted by Michael Deeb, took place in July and was an overwhelming success. Porsche enthusiasts from across the city gathered to celebrate their shared passion for classic cars and enjoy a morning filled with thrilling experiences.

Held on the last Sunday of the month, the event captured the hearts of spectators and participants alike. The location was perfect – an open space with plenty of room for Porsches of all eras to park and shine.

The inaugural event saw an impressive turnout of vintage Porsches, each one a masterpiece of automotive history. From the iconic 911s to the classic 356s, the variety of models on display delighted car enthusiasts and intrigued passersby.

The vibrant atmosphere was further enhanced by the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafting through the air. Attendees enjoyed delicious cups of coffee while bonding over their shared love for these magnificent machines.

Ruffling through the old newsletters is quite entertaining, and sometimes you come across a real gem. The story below is from an April 1975 newsletter, and is reprinted with the permission of the Editor at the time.

McGee Finds God

Last week I woke up early one morning with a startling revelation: sometime during the night I had died. With this in mind, I had breakfast and then started up to see ol’ St. Peter (I hoped).

The receptionist at Pearly Gates, Inc. was a cute little blond, and she greeted me by name.

“Hi, McGee.”

“Well. Hi there, cute little blonde receptionist.”

“We’ve decided to accept you here, Bob. How would you like to spend your time?”

I had one immediate thought, but decided against it. I didn’t need to push my luck. The cute little blond smiled, as if she knew what I was thinking. I decided [...]
