What happened at the September Brunch and will happen in October
Sunday September 11th was a beautiful day. Weather- a bit cool- only in the low 100s. But really sunny- break from the “monsoon” rains. With summer over for many, it was time to get back to semi-normal.
We gathered in the window-lined dining room Of Red Rock Country Club to greet each other over micro-sized cups of hot coffee. There were many familiar and getting-to-be-familiar faces gathering, as the brunch is becoming a must-do event each month.
We settled down to the highlight of the morning- delicious food. After that President Reid Smith greeted the awaiting crowd with news of upcoming events- a drive to California on twisty backroads, a nudge to [...]

by Reid Smith
September 17th was a perfect day in Las Vegas with blue sky, 90 degrees and a slight breeze. AUTOFEST has become a can’t-miss annual event featuring the largest collection of interesting vehicles in Las Vegas. Our LVR Corral, plus other Porsches parked throughout the fairways numbered close to 100!

From the Archives #8, October 2022
Our Las Vegas Region started out its 1975 year with big plans and a new President, Paul Riley.
Their first year, 1974, had finished up with several cars participating in an autocross/time trial (they don’t seem to differentiate and use the two terms interchangeably) at the Ontario Motor Speedway, and an LVR Christmas party that had an accordion player (!) for entertainment (Why don’t we do that?). The time trial featured a 3.2-mile course, including a 1-mile straightaway. The several 356s entered reached 120 mph on that straight, which is just about exactly their top speed. There was no mention of the speed of the accordion player at the party.
At the first Board meeting of the year, it was pointed out that the Region Newsletter (still unnamed) cost $200 per month. They agreed to try to meet this cost by way of advertisers in [...]

From the President’s Desk,
It is so nice to have the extreme heat behind us. I find myself more eager to tinker with the cars and get caught up on yard maintenance. The Boxster with the top down has been my ride of choice lately. I consider a short drive with the wind in my hair as good therapy.
We had a very enjoyable brunch last month. We had a good turnout because of our A-lister guest speaker, Phil Reese. He promised us a 5-hour speech, but short-changed us after about 25 minutes. We were captivated with the presentation of great stories of his years of experience with Porsches. Also, he shared stories of his many years with drag racing in California. After taking care of all of the autograph seekers, we were all free to go home to watch the opening week of NFL.
A highlight of September was AUTOFEST. [...]

Please join us for our September brunch at 10 am September 11th at beautiful Red Rock Country Club. Our speaker will be our very own Phil Reese who is a very long-time member of PCA and LVR. He will be presenting “Tales from a Car Nut”. Be cautioned that Phil will be using archaic terms such as “three on a tree”, may refer to a “clutch” or talk about a “slick”. For older members it may be a trip down a car-memory lane. For younger members- you may want to sit next to some old guy who can translate for you.
To sign up please go to msreg.com/sept-brunch
If you have difficulty adding another person for payment, go to msreg.com, click on “my account”, and view profiles. Add names to “Profile”. Then you can select those names added to your checkout. Hope this helps!
