- Comments Off on THE CHEATING ROADSTER TAKES LINDA FOR A DRIVE
By Phil Reese
The last Saturday in October, being a close-to-perfect day, the roadster said he wanted to take a drive. After some discussion, I said it would be ok, but only if he stuck to roads he has travelled before.
Since he was already full of gas (and other things), I went down to the garage, and he was already out in the driveway, ready to go. And he had Linda with him.
After a partial loop of the 215, he (with Linda aboard) approached the gate at the southern entrance of Lake Mead national recreation area.
I hadn’t realized it, but he interpreted [...]

- Comments Off on PCA MASTER COOKING CLASS A HUGE SUCCESS!
By Barbara Barron
The “HUMAN COOKBOOK” out did himself for the 2nd PCA Master Cooking Class at D’Agostino’s Trattoria. Chef Dan was joined by Gaudin Owner and accomplished Sous Chef Gary Ackerman. Chef Dan prepared a scrumptious Chicken Picatta dish accompanied by a Premier choice of wine, crisp Caesar salad and house-made Cannoli Gary, complete with stylish apron, shared a selection from the cherished Ackerman Family Cookbook, Pasta Bolognese. DELIZIOSO!!!
The full house of Porsche aficionados were especially attentive to Chef Dan’s teaching moment explaining the difference between “traditional” vs “authentic” Italian fare, fresh vs bottled lemon and caper ‘flowers’.
The loud gasps occurred when Chef doused the Chicken Picatta with what looked like a massive amount of Plugra butter. What a hit as the we all couldn’t get enough of the scallopini style chicken, cremini mushrooms, fresh lemon, capers and wine with all that BUTTAH!
We look forward to a 3rd in ’23!

- Comments Off on FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK – DECEMBER 2022
From the President’s Desk,
Well, the year is wrapping up and I’m reminiscing on our accomplishments for 2022. We entered the year without a newsletter or a functioning website. A special thanks to Interpolnik (John Polnik-JP, and Mike Patriquin) for an absolutely first-class Desert Drives newsletter. A shoutout goes to Alex Harbison and his team for such a quality website. All are LVRPCA members! While our successful activities are too long to list here, I do want to especially thank all of our volunteers for their hours and days of planning and carrying out these events. Our club is alive and well!
Our AFTER-HOLIDAY DINNER PARTY will take place at the M Resort on January 22nd. Some may wonder why our activity calendar listed it as December 18th until it was switched a couple of months ago. I originally booked the dinner last Spring. The backstory: I called into the M Resort to get a [...]

And your Porsche for Two Grand a Day!
By John Polnik
When I got a DM from a major coulter fashion brand on Instagram last week, I thought that it was just another social media scam. Turns out, it wasn’t. The ad agency for the designer needed a vintage Porsche in a pastel color for an upcoming photoshoot in Death Valley and their creative director knew just who to call. Plus, they had money to burn.
With an offer of up to two grand a day and an additional finders fee, I was on the hunt. My first choice was our good friend and PCA member Romi Mirza’s 1979 930 Turbo in Ice Green Metallic. The only problem was that the car was at Trophy Performance where they were frantically trying to diagnose and fix a fuel problem.
Hurray! They got it done the night before the shoot! Now all Romi and I had to [...]

The Las Vegas Region newsletter, named “Sandscript” for the first time in February 1975, asked readers to support the advertisers. It was noted that without the advertisers, the monthly newsletter wouldn’t be possible. The issue contained 14 ads. These included a beauty salon, a jeweler, three restaurants, two gas stations, a printing shop, a house painter, a real estate agent, and four having to do with Porsches. The latter included a half-rear-cover ad from Sunland Motors, the Porsche-Audi dealer of the day. This was the largest and most expensive ad, so good on Sunland.
The February Sandscript included a listing of the PCA Zone 8 events scheduled for the 1975 year. It pointed out that the Las Vegas Region was the smallest Region in Zone 8, and that the LVR was fortunate in having such a well-organized and active nearby Zone in which to participate. (Nearby??) I can’t resist [...]

Georganne AKA Gigi grew up here in Vegas in an aviation-oriented family and was a Grand Prix winning horse rider in her teens back when you could ride down the Strip. She then became a flight Attendant and in the 90’s supported troop movements to the Middle East during Desert Storm. She then became a hair stylist for 20 years just recently retiring.
My name is Curt, AKA Greyhound. I grew up in Long Beach Calif. Joined the Air Force at 17 crewing my first KC 135 Tanker at 20 years old. After 10 years I left the service to go on to work at Douglas Aircraft, FEDEX, Delta and several other aviation related firms. I’ve held just about every position there is in the aviation maintenance field. I’m currently an aircraft maintenance manager for a contractor.
We first met in 1992 when I was the technician on one of her flights. I guess the [...]
