From the Archives #9, November 2022
The Las Vegas Region newsletter, named “Sandscript” for the first time in February 1975, asked readers to support the advertisers. It was noted that without the advertisers, the monthly newsletter wouldn’t be possible. The issue contained 14 ads. These included a beauty salon, a jeweler, three restaurants, two gas stations, a printing shop, a house painter, a real estate agent, and four having to do with Porsches. The latter included a half-rear-cover ad from Sunland Motors, the Porsche-Audi dealer of the day. This was the largest and most expensive ad, so good on Sunland.
The February Sandscript included a listing of the PCA Zone 8 events scheduled for the 1975 year. It pointed out that the Las Vegas Region was the smallest Region in Zone 8, and that the LVR was fortunate in having such a well-organized and active nearby Zone in which to participate. (Nearby??) I can’t resist [...]

Georganne AKA Gigi grew up here in Vegas in an aviation-oriented family and was a Grand Prix winning horse rider in her teens back when you could ride down the Strip. She then became a flight Attendant and in the 90’s supported troop movements to the Middle East during Desert Storm. She then became a hair stylist for 20 years just recently retiring.
My name is Curt, AKA Greyhound. I grew up in Long Beach Calif. Joined the Air Force at 17 crewing my first KC 135 Tanker at 20 years old. After 10 years I left the service to go on to work at Douglas Aircraft, FEDEX, Delta and several other aviation related firms. I’ve held just about every position there is in the aviation maintenance field. I’m currently an aircraft maintenance manager for a contractor.
We first met in 1992 when I was the technician on one of her flights. I guess the [...]

Nevada Day turned out to be a PREMIER RACING DAY for Porsche enthusiasts. Sixty plus guests assembled in the Premier Sportscar Service shop turned deluxe banquet hall with winning trophies decorating all tables.
The Meet and Greet chat included Kent Moore, winning crew chief and racing principal for top team 2022 SRO drivers Adam Adelson and Elliott Skeer.
Tony Mazzagatti, owner of 900 Series, a leading Porsche shop and star of his MAV TV show not only shared his insights but his priceless 904 Porsche on display.
The star of the event, Sam Schmidt, founder of CURE PARALYSIS NOW, shared his from-the-heart life stories as a result of his severe injury suffered in 2000. The World of Porsche Brunches Las Vegas Style
On Sunday September 9 LVR met for another good brunch at Red Rock Country Club. The day started out beautifully with temps in the 70’s, clear and sunny. Upon arriving at Red Rock you were confronted with a blaze of color- Porsches of all hues and models- a truly gorgeous sight.
After chatting, noshing on a really good brunch including someone’s favorite cinnamon rolls, and chatting some more, President Reid Smith presented a review of upcoming events for the club including a day drive, a cocktail-optional social, special event with presentation by a noted race driver and other events (as covered in detail on our website www.lasvegasporscheclub.com and in our newsletter Desert Drives).
Michael Dugan introduced our speaker, David Soyk. For those few who don’t know, David is salesman extraordinaire for Gaudin Porsche. He shared his love of Porsches and the considerations you should have in buying an [...]

Registration is now open for our three-day HPDE
By Michael Myers
For our November DE we are moving to the new track at Spring Mountain and for the first time ever hosting a three-day event. Many of us got a preview of this track with some parade laps at our September event and we’re all excited for this new FIA Level-3 track with fast sweeping corners, quick esses, off-camber turns, lots of elevation change and high-speed straights.
With the new track and paddock layout there will be some changes when it comes to parking, tech lane location and the grid-out procedures – more on that as the event gets closer.
Friday will be an open-track day. Friday is open to all Red (advanced) and Green (intermediate) [...]
From the President’s Desk,
After an action-filled September we have been able to kick back a little in the first half of October.
Michael Dugan, our Treasurer, has been organizing our monthly Brunch held at Red Rock Country Club. A shout-out to Mike for always taking care of the details. We want to thank David Soyk from Gaudin Porsche for his insight of the sales and service of our cherished Porsches. David was our guest speaker at the October brunch.
Our Drive Meister, Salomon Braun, is back in the country and was planning an October 22nd day drive to Overton. After weeks of perfect weather, the gods of the wind decided to raise a ruckus. Due to blowing dust, Salomon made the wise decision to cancel the drive as a PCA event. A few brave souls were not to be denied and ventured up the road anyway.
On October 28th, Meet and Greet with the [...]

Meet the Members: Susan and G. “Doc” DeAndrea
I am from Far Hills, New Jersey. I have loved Porsches since childhood at the New York Auto Show and watching the 917s with Gulf livery at Watkins Glen Can-Am. I am a Hoya, spending 11 years at Georgetown University – undergrad, Medical School & Neurology residency, and a Husky, 4 years at University of Washington Seattle, Neurophysiology Fellowship & MBA. Susan is from a large family in Oklahoma, where she graduated from Central State University with a Business degree.
We met in Seattle with a weekly ski group. We married / honeymooned in Tasmania at the end of the 1993 Sydney-Hobart yacht race. In Seattle, Susan ran my private medical office. We had huskies Panama Red & Nanda Devi, we hiked, sailed, remodeled houses and landscaped. When we grew tired of grey skies, on a motorcycle Laughlin River Run from Seattle, I discovered Medford OR. We [...]

September 24-25th provided exceptional weather for our HPDE at Spring Mountain Motorsports. Having no wind in Pahrump NV, is a rarity! We did not have a beginner’s class this time because we offered an instructor training school. It is vital that we have a cadre of competent instructors because we require a 1 to 1 student/teacher ratio to teach the skills required for students to be track ready.
Although we started Saturday run groups with a very dusty track, we cleaned it at high speed with over 90 cars! Join us for our November 18th-20th HPDE. Look for more info to come.
Congratulations to the newest group of Nationally Certified Driving Instructors for the PCA. Thanks to Scott Mann for running the school and we appreciate all of the experienced instructors who served as mentors – helping to train the new candidates. These new instructors are ready to help train you at our next [...]
