From the Archives #12, February 2023

We’ve spent most of the last year reviewing our Region’s first year, 1974. Once we jumped ahead ten years to look at 1985, only to discover that poor attendance at Region events was the primary topic in most of that year’s newsletters.

Now let’s take at look at 1995, at which point in our history the Las Vegas Region was 20 years old (and the Porsche 911 had been on the market over thirty [yes, 30] years).

In the February 1995 meeting, the main topic of discussion was the Region’s need for a computer and printer for publishing the Sandscript, and a compatible laptop to be used for racing events. Note that the Region still had “meetings.” We don’t have meetings of the membership anymore. I guess the monthly brunch at the RRCC is as close as we come to a membership meeting. The Board meeting are open to [...]

From the President’s Desk

I am writing this the day after the day after. I mean day after the AFTER HOLIDAY DINNER PARTY. Oh, my goodness, what a bash! The LUX at the M Resort is hard to beat. The view of the Strip from the top of the M Resort is priceless. The buffet banquet was a first class culinary experience featuring turkey, roasted tenderloin fillets and salmon along with varied dessert selections that were to die for (at least enough to kill my New Year’s resolution!). Our present and past leadership were appropriately honored, along with our incredible Porsche shops, dealership and Desert Drive publishers. It is a reminder to me that I can’t take for granted our phenomenal Porsche community.  No other car club I’m aware of can come close to what we have.

Our first drive of the year will take place on February 4th with a run to Topack, AZ. [...]

1st day in Fort Lauderdale

Embarkation meant a quick shuttle from the hotel to the dock where we were met by guides to the PCA entrance, bypassing a large group of other passengers On to our cabin to get unpacked and settled for the cruise. After a while, we joined others for cocktail social. Then it was time to find where the fore, aft, starboard and port parts of the ship were.

(FYI, after it was all over, it seemed like everything we wanted to be a part of was always at the other end of the ship)

2nd day at sea

The day started with how we were getting around with explanations of navigating at sea (no landmarks) and technical aspects of moving the ship. After lunch, was “Picnic with your Porsche” and a culinary demonstration with the Celebrity Chefs. The evening was given to the “First Porsche (Diecast) [...]

Our After Holiday Dinner Party turned out to be a huge success! Everyone had a wonderful time at the sold-out event at the M Resort. A special thanks to Michael Dugan, Joyce Stacey, Scott Mann, Sandy and Katlyn Cornelius, and Dana Smith-First Lady, for all of their assistance in making it an enjoyable and memorable evening. Enjoy some pictures of the fun!

VALLEY OF FIRE NEVADA STATE PARK via LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA

Tuesday, March 21, 2023

The Las Vegas Region and Southern Utah Intermountain Region members are hosting our visitors from Arizona Region for a day drive. This should be an incredible experience, driving through the beautiful Lake Mead NRA culminating with a visit to the awesome Valley of Fire State Park. We expect 50 to 60 Porsches to participate!

Because of the number of cars involved it is imperative that we move smoothly through the National Park and State Park entrances. Those registered for the PCA drive must have a prepaid day pass or an annual (or lifetime) pass for EACH park. National Park passes are not accepted as Nevada SP passes. We have made arrangements with each [...]

THIRSTY THURSDAY SOCIAL

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16TH, 6:00 PM

We will have a Porsche parking area on the north side of the restaurant.

Drive your Porsche

See you there!

Joe and Denise Marcella have been Porsche Club members since 2019. It was Denise who first discovered the wonders of Porsche by accident.  In 2015, Denise was wandering around the then Gaudin Jaguar/Porsche parking lot while Joe was getting his Jaguar F-type washed. She fell under the spell of an Orange 2008 Cayman S Sport.  She quickly re-learned how to drive a stick, traded in her Volvo C30, and never looked back.

Eventually, Joe too came to his senses and traded in his Jaguar F-type for a bright Yellow 2017 718 Boxster S.  In spite of what some Porsche purists say, the 4 cylinder turbo charge 350 hp engine took the Boxster performance to a new level.  Not to be outdone, Denise upgraded to a Miami Blue 2019 718 Cayman GTS .  With that came a challenge to fit four cars in a three car garage in their Aliante home.  Thanks to a fellow Porsche [...]

Although some of us went up the night before, we had 23 cars that traveled that morning! A special thanks to Gary Lea and Jordan Godorov for organizing the drive. Also, a shout out to Craig Shanklin from IRPCA for a well-organized event!
