Why Does That Volkswagen Say “Porsche” On It? Some History Behind Porsche Renndienst Vehicles.

By: Jordan Godorov

Have you ever been to a car event that featured a Volkswagen with “Porsche” lettering on it? What’s that all about?

According to Richard Lindhorst, writing for Effersport Online – “In 1951, Porsche took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time. Motorsport has been a central part of the Zuffenhausen company’s DNA ever since this entry of two Porsche 356/4 SL Coupés. From the mid-1950s onwards, the so-called “Renndienst”, which means racing service, was also always there to [...]

Unleashing Adventure, Camaraderie, and Automotive Excellence on the Open Road

By Craig Shanklin

There’s something thrilling about sliding into the driver’s seat of your Porsche, feeling the pulse of its engine through the steering wheel, and pointing its nose toward new horizons. For many Porsche owners, this might be a local drive or attending a nearby Cars and Coffee. We all know our car is more than just a means of transportation—it’s a symbol of refined engineering, performance, and a close-knit community. However, taking your Porsche out for an extended road trip…hundreds of miles… is something very different. It isn’t merely about getting from A to B; it’s about experiencing a journey…an adventure… savoring each curve of the road, and embracing the camaraderie that comes with being a part of a passionate automotive family.

Via Brazil Steakhouse in Summerlin was an ideal location for July’s Mix & Mingle. Great food and conversations were had as we enjoyed the evening together. New members, Dick and Joan McGee, shared stories of their tour of over 7000 miles in their Boxster. They had just returned and filled us in on the adventure, which included some famous roads with incredible scenery. Stay tuned for a feature in next month’s Desert Drives. Table talk included everything from cars to guns to real estate. It is always enjoyable to learn more about our LVR members.

What on earth is he off about now. What kind of Nerds??

Well it isn’t as odd as it seems. What it isn’t is a bunch of goofy guys with pocket protectors. Glasses held together in the middle with white medical tape. And no protractors or slide rules.

Bid Nerds is a fun YouTube channel game that takes place every Wednesday and Sunday evening start time officially at 6:30, but most times 10-15 minutes late.

The purpose of the show is to preview a a number of cars that are currently listed on the main auction sites. The sites that dominate are Bring a Trailer, Cars and Bids, PCARMARKET and occasionally Hemmings and Hagerty. Two hosts and often times a guest host set in between the main hosts. The hosts present a bevy of cars, give the pertinent info on the vehicles along with rather hilarious color (generally blue) commentary on the vehicles [...]

SAYING GOODBYE!!!!

pasted-movie.heic

It is always hard to say goodbye to friends, but this one hits close to the heart.

We are saying goodbye to Peter George and his wife Jackie, who have decided to leave Las Vegas for cooler climes. They are moving to Sparks, Nevada, just outside of Reno.

I cannot say that I blame them, as I never intended to stay in Vegas for 28 years and hope that sometime before I leave the planet, I will move closer to them. To say I am envious is a gross understatement. But more importantly, I hate to see them leave the Valley. They are some of my favorite Porsche people.

As for Peter, I cannot say enough good about him. He has been a staunch supporter of the club and a great support to me as the new president. When Buddah left the HPDE, he selflessly volunteered to take [...]

Happy August

Greetings to all you beautiful Porsche people,

We held a Brunch / Member’s Meeting in July and the turnout was nice.

We welcomed back Tamela Kahle and Scott Hatcher to the LVRPCA group.

We reviewed the highlights of what has happened In the first 6 months of the year to include:

Charity events that have been highlighted in the Desert Drives. This was a big change for the group and we are committed to doing more and more charity alliances going forward.

We hosted the largest HPDE in the club’s history with 156 participants. This is the first time that anyone can recall having to cap the participants. This occurred due to extensive outreach to other clubs and closer alliance with other regions in the zone.

We are stretching our connections with other clubs and the SCCA to examine and put on some Autocross events in cooperation with them. This will allow broader [...]

While that question may seem to have an obvious answer that is not at all the case. How so you say?

Let me explain if I may. I have found in all my years in various hobbies and passions that most of the people I meet in the Porsche world have other interests and many of them turn out to be shared by many others. As an example for the Porsche and for that matter, the sports car and collectible crowd, many of us share other similar passions with our fellow car friends. So much so that it no longer surprises me as it did many decades ago as I started my lust for Porsches and other great cars. Here is a small list of what I find to be a running theme with fellow Porsche Loyalists.

If you’ve read the Desert Drive newsletter over the last several years, a mainstay article has been the Meet the Member section. This section was created so that ALL members had an opportunity to introduce themselves to club members and share their Porsche Journey.

Every Porsche has a story—and so does every Porsche owner. Whether it was the thrill of seeing your first Porsche as a kid, your first 911 drive, the joy of restoring a classic, or the adventure of road-tripping in your Cayenne, we want to hear your Porsche journey.

Our club is more than a collection of incredible machines, it’s a community built on passion, experience, and the love of driving. That’s why we’re inviting members to submit short articles about their personal Porsche story. How did you fall in love with the brand? What model stole your heart? What model do you currently have? Any modifications? What memories have you made [...]

Have an Emergency On The Road? What’s in Your “Go Bag”?

By: Jordan Godorov

I have been a licensed driver for over 30 years. In that time, I have had my share of emergencies on the road. Whether it was running out of gas, getting a flat tire, having a mechanical breakdown, or getting stuck in inclement weather, I was always prepared for the situation.

  • Tire plug kit
  • Spare bottle of tire sealant (In addition to the OEM Porsche Sealant)
