As I compiled the list of LVR members signed up to attend the 2023 PCA Parade I was surprised that there were a number of them who I had never met! Being president of the region, I felt we needed to take action. First Lady, Dana and I looked at the Parade schedule and noticed an evening that had no activities or awards banquets planned. Realizing that many would be dining off-site and would be returning later, we began planning for WINEDOWN. The Board approved expenditures and so we were able to purchase wine and bites for that day. One of our biggest issues was finding a location without having to rent a room. As it turned out, our 2nd story room had a large balcony that easily accommodated our party. We entertained 27 of the 38 members of our region that attended the Parade. Although it was quite windy for starters, [...]

The Factory one-off special request Classic Club Coupe No. 001/001 was auctioned last month. This incredible car was on display for PCA Parade attendees in Palm Springs. Guess who made an impromptu appearance? The highest bidder who arrived to drive his new Porsche home. None other than Porschephile Jerry Seinfeld! It has been reported the successful bid was over 1.3 million!

LVR members Mark and Trudy Wilson happened to be in the right place at the right time and snapped the two photos.

GAUDIN PORSCHE CELEBRATION

By Reid Smith

Gaudin Porsche held a 75th Porsche birthday celebration on June 10th. With our Porsche cars filling the parking lot and the challenges with getting inventory, I’m sure the sales team was fantasizing about selling every one of them! A special thanks to Julie Cane and the Gaudin team for hosting a great party!

Note the picture of Salomon Braun glued to his cell phone watching the closing bids of his beloved GT4 on Bring a Trailer exceed his expectations.

Our region to the north, IRPCA, planned a wonderful Memorial Day weekend which included a dinner, drive and wine tasting. And they invited our region. What could be better?

On Saturday evening we had an excellent dinner at Ovation restaurant in St. George, prepared by IRPCA member Jeremy Lawrence, who is the executive chef. Sunday, we met up and headed on a non-interstate route, which took us through Colorado City, and Hilldale UT. Then we took a road less traveled with beautiful scenery skirting the Coral Pink Sand Dunes area. Lunch in Kanab included a wonderful buffet in a rustic atmosphere.

On the way back to St. George we couldn’t resist stopping at the Water Canyon Winery. Owners Shane and Kalie Tooke rolled out the red carpet (and wine) for us. They have developed an excellent product. Their challenge is to produce enough wine for the high demand.

A special thanks to [...]

I hope that you are beating heat and staying cool this summer. As I write this, Dana and I are spending the week in Palm Springs while attending the PCA Porsche Parade. Yes, I’m sure it is warmer than Las Vegas, but we can take 100 degrees with a little sweat. When gathering the names of LVR attendees I was amazed at the number of members I had never met before! So, we planned a “Starlight Winedown” for our region members and friends. It was great to see many of the 38 members that attended the Parade, and meet some for the first time. We have had a fantastic time. I Love a Parade! See our Parade write-up and pictures in this issue.

Memorial Day weekend was very busy for the club. We ran our three-day High Performance Driver’s Education event at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch. The weather cooperated with some ideal temps and everything [...]

The Las Vegas Region hosted our annual Club Picnic Honoring New Members. After an incredible lunch catered by the famous Road Kill Grill, our board members gave an orientation and informed everyone about our upcoming events. Our special guest was Lori DeCristo, our Zone 8 Representative.

What an interesting morning we had at Atomic Motors in Henderson, April 20th. We got there early and watched all of the Porsches roll in. 49 LVR members had signed up for the event and were not disappointed. Also, one of our members is president of an exotic car club in town and displayed about 20 of their incredible cars including Lambo’s, McLarens and of course, Porsches. Atomic Motors is an expansive operation with 5 separate buildings housing all sorts of services. Display rooms with cars for sale, a machine shop that can perform just about anything, detail, high end paint shop, body shop, upholstery, and much more! A shout out to Jack, Bill, Kat and Lance of Atomic Motors for making such wonderful memories for us!

May has proven to be a busy month for our club with numerous activities. We started with a false alarm monthly Brunch! My apologies for the date mix-up. Mike Dugan and I stood at the RRCC roundabout to inform each member that did not get the last-minute email. No members read us the “riot act”, which we would have deserved. A big thank-you for your understanding.

We had perfect weather for our annual Club Picnic Honoring New Members at Mountain Crest Park on May 13th. Besides the tasty BBQ catered by Road Kill Grill, our Board members and Zone 8 Rep, Lori DeCristo, refreshed us on the many facets of our club. Also, on May 20th, many of our members had a very interesting tour of Atomic Motors, in Henderson. We had a very interesting presentation about digital license plates at our May 21st Brunch. It was quite informative and a little sobering to learn [...]

This month is loaded with club activities. Here is a quick rundown for May:

  • 7th – Brunch. If you have not signed up yet, see the brunch directions.
  • 10th – LVR Board Meeting. We will be planning activities for the rest of 2023. Gaudin Porsche Board Room 6:00pm. Join Us!
  • 13th – Member Picnic Honoring New Members. Great food with new and old friends!
  • 20th – Atomic Motors tour
  • 26-28th – HPDE at Spring Mountain
  • 27-28th – Kanab Tour with IRPCA

Desert Drives and our Activity Calendar have detailed information on all events. There should be something for everyone! Our activities usually thin out during the summer months, but we will be continuing our monthly brunches and hopefully some other opportunities.

Some of you remember that our Boxster S Black Edition was murdered in November on the 215. Traffic was stopped, but not the Jeep doing 75 mph that rearended us! Dana and I are fine and we’ve been [...]
