So, this past weekend, I and a group of Las Vegas individuals traveled to St. George to support the annual Charity event organized by the Utah group. The event aimed to benefit the Automotive Technology School at Dixie Technology College.

The event was an absolute success, meticulously planned by the incredible husband-and-wife team of Di and Craig Shanklin. Their dedication to the club is truly remarkable, especially considering their global travels.

On Tuesday, October 14th, a group of us from the board arrived at The Just One Project at 7:30 a.m. at 1401 N. Decatur Blvd. Bright-eyed and eager to help distribute food to those in need, we set out to make a difference.

We had been aligned with this group since the beginning of the year and had mentioned them in these pages a few times. They are truly remarkable in their efforts to feed those in need. In addition to food distribution, they also offer housing assistance, job training, and placement assistance. Their dedication is evident in the fact that they distribute over 6 MILLION pounds of food annually to the community.

If you haven’t attended this laid-back and highly enjoyable monthly event, you should seriously consider giving it a try.

Cars und Kaffee takes place the last Sunday of every month at the Good Wolf in the Arts District. The location is at the corner of Commerce Street and Imperial Street, and the event runs from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Originally focused on German and primarily Porsche automobiles, the event has expanded beyond that narrow focus and now hosts an interesting array of cars every month.

Scissors and Scotch

Our group arrived between 3:30 and 4:30. The center had blocked off the streets, and we found our way to Scissors and Scotch. We backed in and opened the trunks.

By the time we started (5:30), we had lined up seven Carreras and were ready to hand out candy.

We all thought we had too much candy and would be taking it home. We provided between 150 and 200 pounds of sugary delights in total. Little did we know that in 2024, they had over [...]

Every year, the day after Vegas AUTOFEST, a group of car enthusiasts gathers for a beloved tradition: a drive along the scenic North Shore Road of Lake Mead. This year’s outing, blessed with ideal weather, brought together a close-knit crew of friends, their distinctive Porsches, and a shared enthusiasm for the journey—despite feeling the effects of the previous night’s late celebration.

Romi led the group in his striking 934 turbo race car, its bold presence setting the pace. Following him was Anthony from Hour Smiths, a sponsor from Idaho, who joined the drive in JP’s well-worn but reliable Porsche 964 C4 Cabriolet, enjoying the open top in the crisp desert air.

Deeb and Sahand, who traveled from San Francisco to help with the show, joined the convoy. Deeb, JP’s Bid Nerds partner, drove Romi’s 997 Turbo convertible, while Sahand took the wheel of the rare Ruf 993 turbo coupe. Both navigated the [...]

Another Autofest has concluded, and it was an absolute triumph. We once again secured the coveted Top Marque spot at the show, showcasing over 85 cars. While we fell short of our ambitious goal of 100 cars, our performance was undoubtedly outstanding. The closest competitor was the Corvette Club, with a remarkable 21 cars. But let’s be honest, they were no match for us.

This year, we celebrated our second annual show and shine, with 11 cars vying [...]

What a way to kick off September. A full week of driving, eating and enjoying incredible scenery. The following is a daily recap of highlights.

Day 1: We officially kicked off our tour on Labor Day, September 1st, with a meetup at Love’s Travel Stop on US-93, north of Las Vegas. We started with four Porsches, picked up two more in Ely, headed north to Twin Falls and on to the Boise area. Most of our tourers decided to start their vacation early, taking two or more days to get to Idaho. We met for a get-acquainted dinner at LandOcean Restaurant in Meridian with 18 people.

Unleashing Adventure, Camaraderie, and Automotive Excellence on the Open Road

There’s something thrilling about sliding into the driver’s seat of your Porsche, feeling the pulse of its engine through the steering wheel, and pointing its nose toward new horizons. For many Porsche owners, this might be a local drive or attending a nearby Cars and Coffee. We all know our car is more than just a means of transportation—it’s a symbol of refined engineering, performance, and a close-knit community. However, taking your Porsche out for an extended road trip…hundreds of miles… is something very different. It isn’t merely about getting from A to B; it’s about experiencing a journey…an adventure… savoring each curve of the road, and embracing the camaraderie that comes with being a part of a passionate automotive family.

Via Brazil Steakhouse in Summerlin was an ideal location for July’s Mix & Mingle. Great food and conversations were had as we enjoyed the evening together. New members, Dick and Joan McGee, shared stories of their tour of over 7000 miles in their Boxster. They had just returned and filled us in on the adventure, which included some famous roads with incredible scenery. Stay tuned for a feature in next month’s Desert Drives. Table talk included everything from cars to guns to real estate. It is always enjoyable to learn more about our LVR members.
